I just had a continuing education course here: http://www.theallison.com/m/
I live twenty minutes away, and would love to spend a weekend at the Allison! Since I live so close, I don't have a lot of other insight on where to stay and what to do--I've tried several wineries out though.

I live here @mrs.j It's an awesome place to visit.@toile234: recommendation is great- but it's expensive like $300+ a night. If that's in your budget great- if not Hotel Oregon in Mcminnville is awesome. And it's in a walkable city. There are also several B&Bs in the area. It is always nice in Oregon in July.
If you want the highest end restaurant in the area check out The Painted Lady- it was just James Beard nominated. Recipe in Newberg is my favorite dinner in the area. Jory at The Allison has the best brunch.
My favorite wineries are Stoller, Sokol Blosser, Willamette Valley Vineyards, Anne Amie.
Feel free to wall me.

Until recently I lived in the Willamette Valley for 10 years so I can give you some ideas and answer any questions you have! Just a few ideas below:
There are a ton of great wineries to go to, but Ponzi Winery (in Sherwood or Dundee) is great as is King Estate outside of Eugene. Also lots of breweries in Eugene and close to Portland (if you're interested I can give you names).
If you're into hiking Silver Falls State Park southeast of Salem is amazing. There are a few different trails that take you by 10 waterfalls - some you can even hike behind!
Also, the coast is only an hour away from the valley so I'd recommend spending some time there. Newport and Lincoln City are a bit farther south and both great, too. They're only about 45 minutes apart (the drive between is beautiful).
And of course Portland is nearby and there are a ton of recommendations on things to do there.

@fussygal: Ah yes, love Ponzi, we are not club members their since the benefits are not great- but I loooove their grounds and wine.
Also Evergreen Avaition space musuem is really awesome if you are into airplanes.

@youboots: @fussygal: yay! Thank you. We love Ponzi, so I am sure that makes the list. I will wall you both with some questions!

I've lived here since I was 10. 22 years? Wow. Are you thinking city or country? What time of year? Active or more relaxing type of trip? There is so much here!

@sarac: we are looking to do a long weekend in July. Definitely want to visit some wineries and breweries, but I would say a mix of country and city.
