We're moving next month and I could use some decorating help. What would you do with these windows? The furniture and couch are the current owners'. I feel like it looks dated with how they have the curtain rod, but I'm not sure what else could be done.
Any ideas for me?

Personally I would buy longer drapes and put the rod as close to the ceiling as possible. It'll make the room look taller and the windows bigger. You also wouldn't have to worry about something custom for the half circle.

Is there anything on the half circle now? Like a cellular shade?
I probably would do a similar treatment as is there or ditch the panels altogether and do a roman shade, if glare is a concern.

@ShootingStar: i don't think it looks weird it all. i actually think it looks dated when you have the drapes right at the top of the regular windows with the arch top window exposed.

@Freckles: I think it's not the arch so much that I'm worried about, it's the varying window heights in conjunction with the arch. It's much easier when all the windows are the same height, like below:

@ShootingStar: I personally don't think you have to go all the way up to the ceiling, especially since it looks like your ceilings are vaulted. If you look at the first link i sent you, there is still some space between the the top of the window and ceiling. Could you maybe play around with it with your DH and see how it looks? I find that those windows are the toughest to work with (though pretty as they are)!

I'm sort of design-challenged, but I think if this were my house, I'd do cellular shades and no curtains, because I do feel like it would look a little awkward no matter how you do the curtains.

@Shutterbug: I mostly want curtains to add some color to the room. But maybe I should look into some roman or cellular shades to keep open at the top and add a pop of color.
@Freckles: Yup, the ceiling's vaulted on that side. I definitely won't put the curtains all the way to the ceiling.

I'm a huge fan of plantation shutters - bit of an investment but i think well worth it!

i think it's more the color palette and furnishings than the drapes that look dated. With a updated grey or other color and drapes that pop I think it'd look great.

@ShootingStar: besides adding color what do you need the window treatments to do? Purely decorative? Privacy?

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: It would be purely decorative. The house is positioned in such a way that I don't think people would see much into the windows. I suppose it's possible we might need some light filtering, hard to say at this point.

@ShootingStar: in that case I'd go with the second drape you posted where the rod goes across the arch and everything hangs from there. You would not need tons of fabric sense the treatments wouldn't have to close. Plantation shutters would look awesome too, but are pricey especially if you really don't need them for privacy. Love the window so all in all you have a good problem.
@PurplePumps: true, my aunt has similar windows. She hung curtains below the arch and they look fine. Her curtain fabric is a contrast from the wall color. I would hang it all above the arch, but below looks just as good.

@PurplePumps: Yeah, the entire room is BEIGE. Beige couch, beige curtains, beige walls. We're getting a dark gray couch and I want to do a gray and light blue color palette.

if it were for purely decorative reasons I might consider no drapes at all!
