Any suggestions for healthy dinners for a picky eater? I am a super picky eater but I really need to work on what I'm eating. I'm cutting out snacking, but I know I can do better for dinners.

Ideas for snacks too? I've done almonds, asparagus with hummus and string cheese. But, I'm still starving during the day! MFP says that I should keep my calories to 1340, which seems so low

    @Mrs. Blue: Congrats dear!

@Littlebit: Which foods do you like vs not like? I think more smaller meals a day work with picky eaters/snackers versus 3 meals a day.

@NorthStar: MFP is notorious for low caloric output so if you're being active, be sure to put those calories back in!

One of my clients sites was riddled with viruses/etc. so I've spent the past 24+ hours or so working, nursing, and playing with A while she's awake. Hope to get something in tomorrow!

I went on a lunch date with a HB friend and I'm so proud I made good food choices! We went to Cheesecake Factory and I ordered the ahi tuna tataki salad - about 400 calories and I didn't eat it all so now I can use up my calorie allotment for date night tonight! Good luck over the weekend everyone - it's so hard making good food choices but I keep telling myself I'll feel better and the weight loss will make it worth it.

I've been totally absent here. haha. Ive been crazy busy. I have lost 19.4lbs total since Jan 4 and Im only 2lbs above my pre-baby weight! lol, I did get down to it once before, so Im not sure it counts this time. Im hoping I can hit the big 2-0 by weigh in on Sunday.

@Mrs. Yoyo: 11lbs is awesome! Believe me, Im surprised how much Ive lost too. Im just waiting for it to slow down, which Im sure it will sooner rather than later. Im doing a diet bet and most of the other women have lost more in the 10-11lb range.

    @Smurfette: @travellingbee: Thanks.

    @loveisstrange: that's so awesome - congrats girl!!

@sandy: woohoo! 400 calories for dinner is awesome.

This week was busier than expected - only made it to the gym on Saturday and Tuesday. And now I work long days all weekend. When I can't work out, I at least try to do a plank at home, and will often do a few random squats. Also had pizza yesterday, and ice cream.. so I was pretty far over my calorie goal. But it was the first day this week I was over so it should be okay.

I'm going to try to fit in a short workout this weekend but my new job is so busy that I am just exhausted when I get home at 5:30.

well, I have stayed on track with fitness this week and I would say 50/ 50 for diet, so I was thrilled this morning when I taped myself and I was down another quarter inch-ish. Should have stopped there, right? But then I weighed myself and I was up a couple pounds.I was bummed and frustrated with myself for every non-diet thing I ate and drank this week. This is why I absolutely hate actively dieting/ working on my weight- no matter how many times I tell myself to keep perspective, my mood always ends up being impacted either by the number on the scale or guilt over what I ate or bitterness over what I shouldn't eat.
I've said it before and I'll say it again- I am too old for this shite!
that being said, I am proud of my consistent working out which I think has been even more consistent since this group and I'm looking forward to an extra gym day tomorrow.
May the force be with you this weekend, ladies!

Good luck to everyone this weekend and to making good food choices! I work tax season and there are treats everywhere around the office and they bring in lunch. It's so hard!

@Mrs. Blue: three LOs out of the house at the same time? you're my idol.

@Littlebit: What don't you like? I always keep dinner simple, grilled meat or fish and some steamed veggies. If you hate that what about egg white omelet? That is my go to easy meal, throw some deli ham and a very small amount of cheese.

@Mrs. Pen: There are a few awesome at home workout with no equipment on pinterest that I can usually knock out quickly if I couldn't make it to the gym. It's just really hard to do squats and pushups when the couch is calling my name! And pizza and ice cream is always worth it! You're doing great girl!

@lizzywiz: Don't be frustrated! What about setting a consistent day/time to weigh in once a week? That stupid number can fluctuate so much. Good luck this weekend! I did good last night but we're getting together with friends again tonight--I will be good. I will be good.

@loveisstrange: @Mrs. Yoyo: Amazing!!!!!! (insert thumbs up emoji)

Had a good week this week, worked out 5 times and have seen a drop in running times. I also weighed myself and am down 4 lbs since last week. I think it may just be the junk/water weight leaving from last week but I'll take it! It is a big motivation. 6 more lbs until my goal that I want to reach by 3/25!

    Have a good weekend ladies

@loveisstrange: @Mrs. Yoyo: @Smurfette: Y'all are doing so well!!! Keep up the great work!

I'm down around 3-4lbs since the beginning of the year. So not great but not terrible. I was able to eat anything and everything while BFing without gaining weight so now I'm having to get myself out of that mindset and really watch my portions. If I could lose 4-5 more lbs I'd be thrilled! During the week I basically just snack throughout the day at work on stuff like Greek yogurt, hard boiled egg, lunch meat, string cheese. I think it's really helped to do more frequent, smaller "meals."

It's hard to find a balance, though, because I'm not happy when I really restrict what I eat. Like I'd rather be a few lbs over my ideal weight but be able to indulge every once in awhile. And I'm so not ok with giving up carbs completely!

@travellingbee: great way to start the weekend!

@loveisstrange: @Mrs. Yoyo: @Smurfette: the poundage you guys are losing shows real discipline!

@lawbee11: I'm like you- slow and steady wins the race. I also prefer to have my indulgences vs. lose the last couple pounds.
My problem happened when I stopped maintaining and started going up, so I now I have to lose 5 and/or tone up to fit into my pants, and then determine my new normal for maintenance.

Went to gym this a.m. for an extra work out. Feeling better about the scale. Reminded myself who cares what the scale says if my measurements are down? @Mrs. Taco: you're right- a limit to a weekly check in is a good idea.

  21. lizzywiz

    persimmon / 1178 posts

@NorthStar: It is SO hard. I don't keep junk at home but when there is cake everyday at work it is crazy hard to keep saying no. One trick that works (if I do it) is that I have to meet my healthy food requirement for the day before I can indulge. So whatever, something like 40oz of water+5 fruits and veggies. By the time I eat that I am usually too full or over the craving.
Of course, it only works when I enforce it

Everyone here is doing awesome! I'm on day 21 of Whole 30 and you're not supposed to weigh yourself until the end, but I did this morning and lost 5 lbs so far! Hubby and I walked 4 miles on the trail near our home today, while pushing LO in the stroller. I've been bad about checking in on here, but will do so more often because reading your stories is very motivational.

This week has been hard. My exercise classes have been canceled because of weather almost every day, my son and his nanny decided to make a big old tub of cookies, and when it's icy outside there's not even an opportunity for brisk walks. That said, I've only had a couple of cookies when I would have previously inhaled practically the whole container ... So, small victories?

  26. sandy

    cantaloupe / 6687 posts

@lawbee11: I lost all the baby weight with C so quickly I think due to BF. And when she started solids the weight started creeping back up. And obviously this time I can't lose the weight with BF - it's so crazy bc i have never had to lose this much weight in my life before.

The weight loss is so slow but I just keep telling myself at least it's not going up!

I'm almost at the 1/2 way point in my weight loss journey. I had 30 lbs to lose at the end of November. I've lost 14.5 to date (but only 3 lbs since the start of February). I'll be back to pre-pregnancy weight if I lose another 15.5 lbs. and the last 5 lbs after that are just vanity lbs that I can live with.

  27. sandy

    cantaloupe / 6687 posts

@Mrs. Yoyo: yes! Small victories add up! And if a few cookies here and there will keep me from eating an entire tub of them I think it's worth it!

So I have two Costco finds for a pretty healthy and relatively low calorie lunch - and best of all convenient. They have these vacuum sealed 3 cheese and spinach stiffed chicken patties that are pretty good.

Also, this microwave pack of brown rice and quinoa with garlic. I do not like brown rice but this was tasty! And my LO liked it too! A serving is 1/2 a pack and is a good portion. Love it!!

Total calories for both is 300 - win!

@sandy: I love that for quick/easy rice and quinoa! So tasty.

@Mrs. Yoyo: Small victories for sure!

    @sweet_p: Way to go!

I'm doing a lot better with drinking water which has been a huge problem with me since being pregnant. We got in 2 miles yesterday and hope to get in some miles today. I feel like it'll be a little easier to workout at home once DH is out of town this week. A naps like a champ so I'm looking forward to getting some serious workout time in!

I know I'm late to this game, but I just returned to work and want to get back on track health-wise since I ate like crap while I was on leave.

    (1) How much weight would you like to lose between now and March 31? Going to say just 2.5 lbs - that's 0.5 lbs a week. I'm afraid to lose too fast or diet too much since I'm nursing.

    (2) How are you planning to achieve that goal? Diet, although I've been getting in more exercise in general just by being at work - stairs yo!

    (3) What exercise/diet are you currently doing? None, except walking up and down stairs at work.

    (4) Which part of your body would you like to focus on the most? All of it.

    (5) How are you planning to treat/reward yourself for achieving your goal? With pizza! No wait... No treats/rewards, but I'm also not planning on losing very much to start with...

  33. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: I'm so envious of your weight loss so far! You are doing amazing!!

@travellingbee: I love it! I add a little garlic salt for myseld bc I like heavily seasoned food but it's still tasty without anything extra. My LO loves it - we split a pack for lunch with a some chicken (and fruit for her)

I'm late too, but I'd like to join in... I've lost all but 1 lb of my baby weight from BFing, but I have more to go before I'm really at my happy place!
    (1) How much weight would you like to lose between now and March 31? 10 lbs by the end of March, 20 total by June 1.
    (2) How are you planning to achieve that goal? Well, I have to cut dairy (hopefully not soy too!) because LO is reacting to it, so that should be a big help. Just eating healthier in general too. I want to go to yoga again, but LO is eating too frequently for me to leave for long so that might need to wait until later in the spring or summer.
    (3) What exercise/diet are you currently doing? I'd already cut back on dairy when LO was born because #1 had an allergy and I was expecting this, but I'm on day 3 of totally eliminating it rather than just halfheartedly trying to avoid. My husband is doing a semi-strict paleo and has lost some weight, so I'm joining him.
    (4) Which part of your body would you like to focus on the most? I'm hoping to see a noticeable difference in my face, stomach, and thighs.
    (5) How are you planning to treat/reward yourself for achieving your goal? Cute summer clothes, and possibly new bikini if I really reach my goal. That thought alone is so exciting - it's the little things

This is turning into another bad week. More weather, more class cancelations, kids that won't sleep, and a short bout with some virus or the other. Sigh.

@Smurfette: Fries are yummy but 12.4 lbs, damnnnn girl, that's awesome! Keep it up!

@Adira: Your exercise is getting two kids out the door in the morning! Hope back to work is working well for you!

@Mrs. Yoyo: Seriously feel for all you bees dealing with the terrible weather!

@keepcalmcarrie: Welcome! I'd love to hear about any good, simple paleo recipes you guys come across!

This week has went well so far, 4 days working out so far, plan on after work tomorrow and Saturday morning. My right leg has been bugging me so I'm trying to dial down running. A little more than 2 weeks until my 10k race. The scale has stayed the same but I'm ok with that because last weeks loss I equated to water weight so I guess it's real! haha

The real challenge is the weekend. Must. Stay. Away. From. The. Wine.

I want to reply to everyone but I'm literally typing this in the bathroom while toddler girl talks at the door (#grownuphidingplaces), so all I've got is 'good work' and 'you're inspiring me!'
@Mrs. Taco: the adult beverages... Holy batman, the adult beverages. Liquid devils tempting me after every lo bedtime.

I've kept off the first quarter inch and I think I've gone down maybe another 1/8 but I didn't want to pull the tape too hard, ha. Working out is going well, which is great, but diet is still a struggle.
And @Mrs. Yoyo: there are times like that. I know not everyone agrees with me, but I say have some delicious chicken soup and hot chocolate and warm bread rolls and wait for break in the storm (literally and figuratively)...Wait a minute, that is probably the exact opposite of what I'm supposed to say on this thread, since we are supposed to be motivating each other to stick with their goals. Ok, I guess I'm just trying to say take care of yourself and don't be too hard on yourself.
