@HLK208: my baby didn't spit uP a whole lot and I wasn't worried but the ped said it was reflux. We were prescribed Zantac but it didn't help. We later heard that a lot of peds start with a Zantac script because of insurance/cost reasons. We changed to prevacid and the spit up is a thing of the past.

We did a round of Prilosec then a round of Zantac. Neither worked. In LO's case it was undiagnosed allergies to milk, soy, and eggs exacerbating her reflux. Once we got her on Alimentum hypoallergenic formula the spit up problem resolved. Good luck!

@HLK208: J did the same thing! It was so bad we'd have to change his clothes several times a day - even my mom/sister commented that it was more than their babies ever did. But it wasn't a concern to the midwife/ped and I didn't have him on any medications. Like N, he was gaining weight normally, seemed happy overall and ate really well. It felt like it was a larger out-put than in-take but turns out he was just fine! It lasted a few months but I think by about 6 months he had outgrown it.

My DD spat up a ton until she was about 5 months. She didn't have reflux, but did have gas. I gave her gas drops until she was about 8-10 weeks, and then she didn't need them anymore, and she seemed totally fine. I was worried about weight gain too since it seemed like she puked so much, but she was always gaining every time we had her weighed.

K spat up A LOT and we were prescribed meds too. But she hated it and it was impossible to give it to her. So I just tried my best to keep her elevated, she wore bibs for months, had to change her all the time, keep washcloths to wipe up everything. I even let her sleep on my chest propped up for a month when it was really bad. Then one day it just seemed to stop.

Yes! She spit up a TON in the early days. We tried Zantac and Prilosec for reflux but neither worked and it turned out to be MSPI. Since I adjusted my diet it's basically a non-issue now! I can't bekieve the diffrence it's made.

Blake spits up a ton (occasionally enough to soak himself, me, the boppy, etc). He's on Prevacid and it doesn't stop the spitting up. Instead, it makes the spit up less acidic so it is not painful. He used to scream and arch his back after eating. Now he spits up and is still just as happy as can be. Alice is on Zantac and has almost entirely stopped spitting up. However we suspect she's just outgrown her reflux. We want to try taking her off it but we're sort of scared!

P was a big spitter (though happy and gaining), but like others weeliminated dairy and soy based on blood in her stool and the spitting stopped almost immediately and never came back after that. We were only dairy and soy free for 6 weeks.

Our crazy spit up ended up being MSPI, more specifically the dairy. He was still gaining well, but became much happier once I eliminated dairy.

We are still having some issues, but all I have to do is accidentally re-introduce a food into my diet, and it makes me realize how much better things are now!

@hlk208: for what it is worth, G was/is a decent weight-gainer, except for a few weeks around her 8 week appointment. It is amazing to me, because she seriously spit so, so much.

@HLK208: G's did, too. For what it's worth, at her 4 week appointment, the ped said he thought it was reflux but didn't want to put her on meds for it. So, I decided on my own to eliminate dairy after she presented a few other symptoms a few weeks later (screaming, yellow/green poop, and a stuffy nose). Within a week, little miss Mount Vesuvius was screaming less and spitting less. That's when we really noticed the reflux issues, though-she would arch her back, and it smelled like pure stomach acid. So, we got her on Zantac, which made her much happier. I eliminated soy a few weeks later, when the spit up came back, and recently beef, since it came back again after eating beef a bunch over Labor Day.

I'm hoping that this isn't your issue, but if you're willing, it might not be a bad idea to try. Just a word of caution: I had to eliminate all dairy, even butter, for it to be effective. I learned this the hard way over the 4th of July. I had been dairy free for two weeks and decided to spoil myself on cookies over the weekend. BAM, back came the spitting and screaming. I was so, so hopeful that I was wrong, that she wasn't intolerant. But I am glad that we've identified at least some of the issues, and now she feels better!
