For those that work out of the home? How do you nap train when you're only with them on the weekends?
M does not nap at all at daycare. Seriously, her teachers count it a victory when they get her to nap more than 20minutes. On the weekends she only naps ON me. I've been trying to put her in the crib and let her cry a bit but she gets hysterical.
I don't mind holding her but I will get so much done if I had the time when she's napping. And I suspect she'll nap longer too.

LO naps great on the weekends, three naps totaling over 3 hours. At daycare, different story, total of about 2 hours (maybe). We wrote down the schedule that works on the weekend and the teachers try and follow it best they can. We have also brought in loveys, sound machines, etc.

We sleep with him on weekends. He will sleep longer if we are with him. How old is your LO? Have you tried wearing her?

@brownie: she'll be 9 months on Monday. I want her to be able to nap without me so other people like oh, daddy, can put her down for a nap too.

E is just like M at daycare. We're lucky if he sleep more than 40 min all day. He naps like a champ at home though. We started by putting him in a sleep sack and then letting him sleep in the swing. Then we moved to putting him in the sleep sack and rocking him to sleep in his room. now to where we can rock him, sing a few songs and lay him down. He associates getting into his sleep sack with sleepy time and goes down pretty easy most of the time. We're working on transitioning that same idea over to daycare, with a little success in the last week.

We put LO down drowsy. We don't let him fall asleep on the bottle or us. We put him in his crib with his lovey. He plays with the lovey and then falls asleep within 5 minutes. Same rules apply at daycare. He doesn't sleep as long, usually 30 to 40 minutes but they seem to be improving week to week.

Same story as yours, except he does nap well on the weekends in his crib or swing. I've wondered how to nap train as well since sleep training emphasizes naps, but he just won't sleep at daycare. At least he let's me put him down on weekends though...I feel for you!

@regberadaisy: My little guy didn't start sleeping until after he was a year old. He was actually napping better at daycare than at home for us. We weren't as stimulating. So, we started going and doing things before nap. So he was tired enough to sleep. We also tried to mimick his schedule at daycare.
You can nap train only at home. They know there are differences (she doesn't sleep on you at daycare). So you can do it just on the weekends.

I have no idea. I think M makes up for her crappy daycare naps on the weekends, sometimes she takes 2-3 hours naps on the weekends, and takes 30 minute naps on weekdays. I think it's the dark room and white noise. Does she sleep in her crib at night? Is there anything different from her evening sleep than her daytime naps?

@mediagirl: that's the part I don't get! She can fuss and fall asleep now in her crib at bedtime. But she will not so it at nap time. The only difference is it's bright in her room at nap time. But I wouldn't want to make it dark for fear she'll reverse her day and night sleep. We got a good thing going at bed time so I don't want to mess that up!

I'm having a similar problem. I nurse DD to sleep (4 months) and she will sleep for at least an hour at a time. I found out today that DD did not nap at all at her babysitter's house. I need to start nap/sleep training her so she can learn to self sooth and sleep on her own without help from me.

@regberadaisy: I don't think that darkening her room would put her at risk for reverse cycling! My son's room is really dark and he naps well at home (I think) because of that. At daycare, he only naps for a short time in the morning b/c it's not thta dark. In the afternoon he naps for a long time because it's group nap time and it's pitch black and soft music plays.

I am so glad I am not the only one with this issue. Grae naps amazing for me but M-F is a crapshoot. My mom is better at getting him to nap than my MIL is but he never does more than 2 hours with caregivers. Weekends he loggs about 4 hours of nap time during the day with great night sleep

I used to get really worked up over naps but I think I just have realized he is going to nap poorly there and as long as he is in a good mood when I pick him up I'm not going to stress about it.

@regberadaisy: I think at this age she probably has her nights and days pretty well sorted out so you don't really need to worry about that.
