Tell me about going from 1 LO to 2. Will you keep your same schedule at work, will you go part time. What's it like having two in daycare? Are the expenses doubled or will you get a discount on the second child?

@mrsjyw: I wish my parents would move closer and do that for us. That would be so amazing. You're lucky!

Just one now but planning on 2. I do believe daycare gives a minute discount but honestly it's neglible.
Currently my ILs watch LO once a week. In an ideal world when we have two the ILs will watch them once a week and Dh or I or alternating will watch them once a week. Work from home? Then they will be in daycare 3 days a week. That will help offset the cost of 2 in daycare full time.
We'll see when the time comes.

I am very early pg with #2, but our plan will be for me to continue WOHM FT and pay double for daycare. I try not to worry about it as daycare really is short-term. I am in Canada though too, so will have a year off for maternity leave and will likely be extending it to 14m or so, DH will then be home for the summer, so #2 won't go to daycare until he/she is 16m or so.
It is a long way off but it will be crazy to see what life is like as a WOHM with two in daycare! So far two weeks into #1 gone to daycare and me back to work it feels great/natural, but I can't imagine we'd get that lucky with two!

I WAHM 3-4 days a week and commute the rest. I am still working a FT schedule and we get a 10% discount at daycare.

I can't speak to the change from 1 to 2 LOs since we went from 0 to 2, but I can tell you that around here, the discount for the second kiddo is close to nothing- $100 AT MOST for what I found, which is a drop in the bucket when you're looking at $3000 a month (for both kids). A nanny ended up being cheaper for us.

@Beebug: whatttt!?!?!?!? Ahhh howbdid I miss urb Fp!?!?!?!?! Congrats mama!

@locavore_mama: With the schedule my DH and I have now we could potentially do 3 days a week for daycare. The only problem is finding someone that will do part time care. A lot of the optins where I live are full time only. I'm off friday, and my husband works nights and is essentially off all day monday.
We pay for full time care for our LO right now even though she only goes 4 days a week.

@yellowbird: Thanks! It's been funny just getting back to work last week off mat leave for #1, knowing we are pg again, it'll be great when the awesomeness of being back to work wears off

@Beebug: So in Canada you can get another full year off even if you havent worked a whole year before your next arrives??
I need to move!!! Wonder how hard it is to get a dental license there

@yellowbird: yeah, it's the same here. One of my old co workers only sends her daughter like 3-4 days a week but pays FT.
My daycare happens to do daily rates and my dream daycare does a 5 day or 3 day rate. In my utopia we will switch both to dream daycare when #2 enters daycare.

@yellowbird: I need to work 600 hours before I can go off again That will get me government maternity benefits as well as top-up from my employer while off. The crazy person in me had that date (600 hours from when I started back last week, lol) calculated like a week after #1 was born! Sometime in Feb!

I have been moving between full time and part time (32 hr) schedule since having my kids. I increase it if the workload gets heavy and lower it when my mental health declines, haha.. I'm lucky to work for a company that is a top 100 companies for moms. We get a whopping 10 bucks a month discount on day care. The expenses are definitely not doubled. We reused pretty much everything except clothes. The hardest was when DS was in infant stage and I was nursing or pumping all the time. Then we had a brief respite when he was an older infant. Now yet he's two and Dd is 5, it's getting hard again!

Pregnant with #2 and I plan on keeping my same schedule- I WOHM 4 days a week and LO goes to daycare FT. It'll be the same once #2 arrives.

Only 1 LO but when we do have 2 I will keep my same schedule. The only way we can make it work for us though is to space the kids out so we don't have two in daycare at once.

We switched from a daycare center to a private sitter (friend of our family who just watches our after the preschool she worked at closed) due to it being cheaper. Otherwise there wasn't much change to our lives. I still work full time outside the home with a one hour commute each way.

We are planning on having 2. We are just spacing them apart so daycare will be a little bit cheaper. Ours goes down quite a bit once LO is potty trained. So if we can time it right the expense shouldn't be too bad. We will still have 2 in daycare but at least it is short-term.
