I'm wondering how it's like to work once you have more than 1? I feel like working with 1 is manageable ...how is it with 2... and then beyond? Please share your experiences!

I have a 4 yr old and a 12 month old and I work full time. The kids are in day care. I have found it difficult, at least the first year having two. I have had many anxiety ridden evenings where I am trying to rush from work, pick up the kids, get dinner on the table, give baths, bedtime, pack lunches, make baby food etc, and then pump on top of that! One time, I was pumping WHILE cooking dinner (it's called the backpack pump n style!) and holding the baby on my hip. In case you are wondering where DH is in all of this, he has a long commute so that leaves me with the lionshare of the work. Now that we are over the 1 yr hump, things have significantly improved. It also helps that my 4 yr old is now more independent. I think it also depends on your disposition. With me being a high-stress type A person, I'm not so good with "rolling with it" which is kind of what you need to do. It is helpful if your partner is more available and hands-on to get through the first year. I hope I didn't make it sound too bad. When I was in the thick of it, time was passing by so slowly. Now that we're through it, it seems like it went by so fast!

@T-Mom: Wow. That's amazing. I feel kind of like that now with just one, and my husband at home taking care of her... I've often wondered how other moms do it. Kudos.

@T-Mom: You actually didn't make it sound too bad. I am pretty type A, too. I figure that the first 1-2 years will be tough but then it should be better. DH isn't usually around much during the week but I hope that he can come home early once in a while during the first year, as you said. Thanks for the response and wow to cooking dinner, holding a baby, and pumping at the same time!!

@Andrea: @JennyD: That's really nice of you guys.. my biggest regret is that I wish I could have handled the year more "gracefully." There was a lot of yelling at the pre-schooler involved. I still feel horrible about it. But thankfully kids are reslient, and she doesn't really seem to remember :-).
