Woah, that's a real leap to adhd. My daughter is really active as well - she doesn't just hang around snuggling unless she's tired or sick. We make sure that she gets a lot of chances to run around and be active, in age appropriate ways. Lots of children are just very active - whether it's a problem or not is really just based on how you view it.

You just described my son to the tee! Super happy, super active... has never been the cuddly type and always wants to crawl and explore. Even in the carseat, he's happy but kicking his feet nonstop.. he's just always moving.

I haven't worried too much about this, I guess because he is just like DH when he was a baby, and DH turned out fine. Though DH was a pretty wild toddler so I am bracing myself. I'm not used to this because DD was the complete opposite.

I think it's too young to tell if it's ADHD!

I think it's too early as well. My 19 month old daughter has always been active, and was never one of those calm and cuddly babies i heard about. She's mellowed out a bit, but she is still a super busy body. At that age, they have really short attention spans, so i wouldn't worry about it too much right now.

My 19 month old is like that too. Super energetic, happy, not a cuddler, very independent like to explore, always busy, etc. Developmentally, she is totally normal. It's all just personality! Some kids are just more energetic than others.

@jedeve: J is the same! At 10 months he was walking everywhere and hated being held. I remember going to a friends house and she laid out a blanket on the floor for him. Yeah there was no way he'd stay there, haha
He's almost two and is still really active. Never has been a sit and read (unless he's exhausted) kind of kid.

My son is like this, and I just go with it. He mellowed out a lot at around 2.5, but now, he's more of a daredevil, lol.

My son is 15 mos and we get comments all the time about how active he is. He is into everything and is a total daredevil-climbing on top of everything and jumping on furniture, etc. I am not too concerned about it though, as he does like to read with me and enjoys independent play and being outside. He's a much happier kid when he's busy playing so we make sure to do a lot of that everyday. He was very active while I was pregnant so I think it's just his personalilty.

My son is super active! Like 2x's as muh as other kids his age. He's nonstop from the moment he wakes up, til the moment he goes to bed. I just think that's his personality, and not ADHD.

My daughter is like this. Everywhere we go people tell us how busy she is. But I don't worry about it. As much as you can tell from an 11 month old she seems very smart (it takes us all of about 30 minutes to teach her things like peek a boo and blowing kisses, and she's the only kid in her day care class who has figured out the sign language they are teaching them) so I like to think she's just busy because her super smart brain needs stimulation

My 13 month old is the same way, she doesn't cuddle, always on the go, & has always been active. I think it's just her personality! I wouldn't worry about it! Some kids are more explorers, and I think ours fall into that. I used to worry she doesn't like to read a book with me, but I figured with time it will come. I will continue to read them to her even if she gets up and walks away.

Calling it a 'boy thing' needlessly promotes false gender stereotypes. Some children are just far more active than others, boy or girl. My daughter is the strongest and busiest toddler I've ever met, boy or girl. Nothing to do with gender.

@jedeve: When LO first got super active, once he started crawling, he would totally ignore story time. But as he got older, he would come and sit with us for part of the story and then go run around. We know he's ready for bed when he actually snuggles for an entire story.
