I was reading a blog and the woman who writes it is currently pregnant. She is a non-profit surrogate for her cousin. They are covering her medical expenses. She is doing it purely out of love for her cousin. I thought it was an amazing thing to do.
Would you consider being a surrogate for someone, family or not, paid or not?

My mom and I were just taking about this while watching Guliana and Bill repeats. I think it would be awesome, but I'm not sure if I could handle it emotionally. I think I would need to see how my own child birth experience goes first. I would absolutely do it for my best friend for nothing, but I'd consider doing it for profit too. Although... I'm not sure anyone would pick me! I'm definitely not into organic and I hate exercise.

After watching the episode of Guliana and Bill where their son is born, it made me definitely consider it. It's probably super cool to do it for a celebrity, but really it just seems like a great gift you can give someone no matter who they are. If I had another child I would have to see how that experience went before I decided to do something like that, though.

We just talked about htis at work the other night. I would consider it. It would have to be for someone I know well, but not an immeadiate family member.
It would be difficult to watch someone that close raise a child you carried. What if they had a major life change and raised the child in a way that you absolutely didn't agree with or they turned out to be a terrible parent.

Absolutely, in fact my goal is to finish my family and then do two surrogacies. I love being pregnant but could definitely do without bringing the kid home.

I would for family, no question. Would probably take more thinking to do it for a stranger. Hubs on the other hand was shocked when I mentioned I would even consider it.
I carried well, and my labour was fairly easy. Though, like @photojane: said, i'm not sure a stranger would pick me! Also un-organic, and anti-exercise!

I wish I was unselfish enough to, but I really don't think I could carry a child for that long and then have to hand him/her over (especially if it was a her! Major lack of female-born McKs!)
Maybe for my SIL, but even then I'm not sure I could.

A local photographer in my area did this for her SIL, their story was called "A Belly For You, a Baby For Me"...it was an amazing story and the whole thing was captured by this ladies amazing photos. A lot of them made me cry.
Anyway, I think I would do it for my sisters, no one else though.

I would for my sisters in a heartbeat. They're younger than me so by the time I would need to I would likely have had all my children, which I think would make it easier.

I would love to be able to do this, but it's just not in the cards for me.
I get very severe migraines and have to take a good amount of meds when I'm pregnant. It's hard enough to worry about how it's effecting my own baby, I could never do that to someone else's, nor do I think they'd want me to. Plus it's literally the first two trimesters of me being in horrible crazy pain where I have to lay there and do nothing and I'm in the ER every other weekend. I mean if I didn't have anything to do..... but I have a family to take care of now.

I could probably do it if I didn't hate the actual being pregnant part so much. I didn't really feel any sort of attachment & to me it's not a huge deal or anything.
(I actually caught myself thinking I "got" why people are surrogates while pregnant)

I would do it for my sister without a question, I don't know how I'd feel about doing it for profit, maybe after my family is done I would consider it.

I don't think I could. Pregnancy is hard, and the only thing that makes it easier is knowing it's my LO in there that I'm growing and nurturing and will get to meet soon and spend my life with. I don't have any siblings or anybody I'm super close enough with that I could do that for them. Guess that makes me selfish! Plus OMG the paranoia that something's gone wrong in there, I couldn't handle it if it was somebody's else's baby. The responsibility!!

Before having baby 2 I would have been only for my sister.
After getting pregnant again.. Hells no!

No I cant do it. This is not an easy thing to do at all. I applaud those that can do it but I cant. If a baby grows in my belly for an entire full term pregnancy then my mind will not be able to accept that the baby isnt mine

I would do it for someone I knew and loved, but if it was for a stranger, I think it would be really hard to feel like it was for someone else and not my baby to keep

I don't know. It really depends how this pregnancy goes, because so far it isn't a walk in the park. In theory I would, after I was done having my own kids, and only for someone I really loved. Right now I think I could separate it from being mine, but who knows later on.
However, that doesn't matter because 1, DH wouldn't want me to-- he's too concerned on the toll if would take on me, and I'd have small children at home still, and 2, I'd probably be too old to be a really good candidate by the time I'm done having my own anyway.

Only a sibling or super super close family member. I don't have any sisters or family that I am that close to, though. But I'd do it out of the goodness of my heart for someone I loved that much (provided they covered my medical bills) and I'd have a hard time accepting payment. Pregnancy has been easy for me and I am the kind of person that would not feel like the baby is mine.

I don't think I could do it. Pregnancy has not been difficult for me, but at 23 weeks I already feel an intense emotional bond with my baby. I don't think I could carry a baby for nine months and then give it away! I certainly commend those who could though.

I have considered it. If I'm not able to get pregnant and my DH and I adopt, an agency probably wouldn't take me.
