That's weird. I think it's ok to be invited without a spouse if it's a girl thing. If you don't want to you, you could always call and say that you didn't realize that you already had something that day and appologize.

I don't think I would be offended but if you don't feel comfortable going then decline the invite.

I would be slightly offended but not enough to be angry - I might feel a bit annoyed, though. If I knew other people who were going, then I'd be okay going alone. If I didn't know a single soul there, then I'd decline.

I would be VERY offended. This is completely unacceptable! It's one thing if it's a girls-only event (or a guys-only event), but since it's a mix event, it's incredibly rude to invite one part of the couple and tell them their spouse is not invited! Do NOT go to this! I would NEVER go to an event that my spouse was specifically barred from (unless as I mentioned before, it was ladies-only). That's soooooooooo rude!

Yep. I'd tell her I can't make it unless Dh can cOme too since he's my ride. But since she already said Dh can't come, I'd just decline the invite

Rude! If it were me, I wouldn't understand why anyone would think it's acceptable to not invite my husband to a party with other couples there -- while I'm pregnant! So she can somehow make room for other couples, but not for my husband. Is it just a family thing (as in the only couple attending are close family members)? If so, that kind of excuses it but only a little.

Honestly, if I were you, my first thought would be, "What do they have against DH?" If they are inviting other married couples, it is very very weird to me to not invite ALL the spouses of guests, and I would wonder if they just didn't want my DH to attend. From the sound of it, it's not at her home, so I can understand limited space, but if you can't invite a couple, then don't invite one of them at all.

@twodoghouse: Exactly- why on earth, if you are having a "general" (i.e. not employees-only or ladies-only) event, would you not PLAN for seriously partnered people to come together, and reduce the number of COUPLES you invite, if you don't have space?
There are plenty of times when I WISH a friend wouldn't bring his/her partner, but Lord knows I'd never tell them that.

I think it's pretty rude. Maybe if it was a wedding and they had to pay per head and didn't even know your spouse, but even then. I would never do that.

It does seem awfully rude. Does the host know you are married? Perhaps your husband doesn't get along with the host? I would go anyway but get a car service maybe if you think there could be a reasonable explanation.
