I'm looking for a play yard on Craigslist. Found one that is just what we are looking for, for a good price. The kicker? The listing says it was used for one week for house training her puppy.
Realistically, if the listing didn't mention the puppy I'd never have known that anyway, but now I'm thinking the puppy probably peed on it, right? Would you buy it and just clean it well or is that just way too icky?
FWIW I just emailed and asked if there were bite marks and if the dog peed on it

@Foodnerd81: ohhhh a super yard?! in that case, I totally would get it. that can easily be disinfected! i mean, my dog licks the gates and I still use them with my daughter. who also licks them..

when we were house training my (male) dog, he peed down! he didn't lift his leg. so I really don't think the odds are that the puppy peed all over it, haha. chewing on the other hand, def could happen. but like I said, you could disinfect it if the price is right!

@sorrycharlie: Yeah, like a super yard. And yes, I have absolutely found C holding the dog's bone (how does she find it so fast???) but that's MY dog. Not someone else's, you know? (and I don't WANT her to chew on the dog's bone for a lot of reasons, but you know, sh!t happens when you have a dog and baby).

@Foodnerd81: yeah, but I think that if you disinfect it it'll be fine! I don't think she'll just sit and suck the life out of the play yard LOL, you know? my mom's dog, my ILs dog, all have licked LO's face (grrrr) before I could stop it, and she's totally fine. if you give it a good cleaning I think it'll work - for a good savings anyway! for a $15 savings, meh. too much effort. lol.

You could totally hose down a play yard. Puppies usually pee down it's not like anything but the edge touching the ground would come into contact with urine.
How much would you be saving vs. buying new?

I'd get it if you can soap and spray it down in your driveway and let it dry in the sun. I'd spray some vinegar and water on it first to disinfect and then soap it down. I used to use the same play yard on my dog so I know which one you're talking about. I didn't move that when I moved east but then someone gave me one after I had my first. I used it to keep my oldest from getting to a light, air purifier, and other misc. things around the house.

@oliviaoblivia: @sorrycharlie: $40 savings- listed for $20 and they retail at least $60. But we have no hose so I'd be cleaning it in the bathtub probably! I'm prob just going to buy new, I think it might be too much effort.

At first I was thinking "Is she crazy? Good luck getting puppy pee out of a pack and play...", but if it's one of those plastic corral type of ones, then go for it! You can easily disinfect and clean.

@Foodnerd81: oh it's one of those gate thingies? hahha yeah then that's totally fine. Disinfect and hose it down and you're good to go.

Play Yard - all plastic? Totally sanitizable. I would wipe it down with a bleach-water solution and then rinse it off in the tub. Then put it in your front yard or driveway to bleach in the sun a bit for good measure.
BUT if you have a dog of your own -- you might not want to do this. Some of the scent may linger (even if we can't smell it) and your dog might pee on it constantly.

Honestly, for the amount of use we get out of it, $20 is the way to go. Plastic is easy to disinfect!

Score-- another one was just posted on a parenting list serve and it was used for human babies, not puppies. I'll pay an extra few dollars for that.

I would if it's 100% hard plastic. That's easy to sanitize. I mean... my kid licks the shower but I sanitize it so it's ok.

I totally would get it but I'm the opposite of a germaphobe and I am very much into getting things used (as opposed to buying new). I originally thought you meant a pnp, which I could kind of understand but a gate-thing that was only used for a week? Seems like a good deal to me!
