We're considering taking a trip with my parents to Alaska next summer. It would be a cruise/train trip and LO would be 2. There's a slight chance we could either be pregnant or have a very young infant as well. Thoughts? I really want to go, but I just want to make sure I'm considering all of the right things.

I've never had a two year old so I can't speak to that it but I will say that we took an Alaskan cruise for our honeymoon and the waters were rough. I'd cruised before and have never had motion sickness on boats planes or cars but definitely felt a little funky on the upwards first half of the trip. I cannot imagine doing thAt while pregnant! The flexibility of buffets and dinner times would be a huge plus for kids i think. Shore excursions would probably be limited somewhat with little ones in tow as well.

With just a toddler- maybe. With another baby or being pregnant- definitely not! Toddlers are finicky enough as it is- hard to plan if they're going to be having a "good" day or not. Being pregnant with a toddler is really tiring...and a young baby- well, it all depends on if you hit the sleep lottery. For me personally, I don't think a cruise would be a fun vacation at those ages.

@scg00387: I have worried about the seasickness while pregnant. I was SO sick for so long while pregnant with LO... And that was on land!
@Baby Boy Mom: Even with grandparents there to help? We wouldn't go if it were just me and DH, but my parents are extremely helpful and hands on!

We're actully looking at cruises for next Feb, when my son will be 22 months, so it's obviously on our minds right now. I would take a toddler, but most cruise lines won't let a child under 6 months on board, nor a woman more than 26 weeks pregnant. Just something to look in to.

My friend took her two year old on a cruise and they had daycare for him!

@blackbird: I was hoping that would be the case, but the line we would go on only has childcare for ages 3+ I think.

I was really, really sick when I cruised pregnant. That being said, I was really, really sick when I cruised without being pregnant. My husband's coworker (also pregnant) was fine though and loved the cruise because of all the food!

@Weagle: If it was only the toddler I would probably go.
We travel a lot and the logistical stuff doesn't scare me. But from my experience with others IRL it's better to set low expectations if you know what I mean. I still probably wouldn't take the trip with a young baby though. I just wouldn't want to miss out on excursions and such but some days are really rough if you haven't slept the night before. Pregnant maybe during second tri? I dunno- I just felt really awful most of the time and definitely enjoyed the trips we took a lot less than usual, but I guess it depends how you feel?

@Weagle: From a logistics point of view, when we cruised w/ Carnival, they wouldn't let anybody who was 25+ weeks pregnant go, and no babies under 6 months. That being said, I think it would be fine w/ a 2 year old.
