I called a two-year-old girl "buddy" the other day, and her dad (my friend) expressed a little surprise. I guess he wasn't expecting me to use a boy-ish term to refer to a girl.
It actually helped me realize that I plan to use plenty of gender-neutral or male-ish terms with Olive as she grows up. I will treat her pretty much just like I treat Charlie...
Will you treat your daughters like a girl, or a boy? Or something different or in-between?

Lots of people call my lo buddy. I dress her in gender neutral clothes a lot, so she's often mistaken for a boy.

I don't feel comfy using that term in general.... Even for my son. But I love hearing my hubby call him that. Cant imagine him calling my girl that.

I think I would, at least for a while if our LO is born a girl, but I have been calling him/her "buddy" in utero for a while.

I wouldn't call my daughter buddy because I see it for kids who aren't your own I guess,LOL, but I see nothing wrong with it.

Buddy is our yorkie's name, so we by default won't be using that for either gender!

Yeah, I would but I don't think it would be regularly. I would most likely say 'How you doing, buddy?'

I'd do it. Don't know if I'll use that exact nickname, but why not use a "boyish" one?
After spending my childhood in a family of four girls, I honestly don't give a damn if my kids are male or female. I don't want to fall prey to that (IMO, ridiculous) pink-tutu/blue-baseball gendering with them.

I definitely have before. It's one of those things I say to little kids I don't know at the playground or whatever. (Like, if one runs into my leg and falls over, I'll say, "Oops, sorry, buddy!" and help him/her up.) I also call my daughter "cuddle buddy" when she's being cuddly and when I say good night to her at bed time. Now she says, "Let's be cuddle buddies!" whenever she wants to cuddle.

I would totally say something like "hey little buddy" to a baby girl. I don't think it would even cross my mind that it might be weird...

I call DD buddy all the time; I also call other kids I know buddy. It's just natural to me, I guess.

I've never called a little girl "buddy", but I also don't see anything wrong with doing so.
