i was looking through the reviews to see who would buy this--one of them was the mother of a child with physical disabilities who had her child use it during water physical therapy sessions, and is always with him. i could see using it for that purpose and under constant supervision, but otherwise, the answer is no.

My friend from Singapore had a picture up of her son in a swimming course and they used this! I don't know how it works though.

I don't know how those help teach anyone to swim because just like water wings (I don't believe in those either), they hold the swimmer vertical instead of horizontal.

We have a swimava, which I think is the same thing, I heard about it here on the bee, because some of the bees were raving about it! We have only used it once in the big bathtub, when my LO was about three months old. She liked it and didn't seem uncomfortable at all. Now that its summer, I'm going to try it in the pool.
