This year we are going to a steakhouse for Thanksgiving, and it will be a buffet style setup. They are charging $80 for adults, and $20 for children under 12. Should I say something about being charged $20 for my 18 month old to eat a couple fistfuls of food, or should I just eat (no pun intended) the cost?
(I called the restaurant yesterday to ask but the person on the phone didn't seem to understand my question so that was no help)

I wouldn't like being charged for an 18 month old! Usually at buffets, they don't charge for 2 and under.. Sometimes it's even up to age 4, where we live! If the employees aren't helpful, ask to talk to the manager..

Could you just tell them that LO isn't eating and just give her little bits of your food? I think it's weird that ALL kids under 12 are $20! Usually it's "3 and under are free" or something like that. I'd ask the manager.

Usually children under 4-6 eat for free..
I would definitely talk to the manager about it.

I think it's definitely worth clarifying. Most buffets I've been to charge $1 per year for children under 12.

I would bring my own food for baby and tell them he/she isn't eating. I wouldn't pay $20 for my kid not to eat. Especially if there is no Mickey Mouse there (I paid that for a character breakfast for the little bit).

well, with $80 for adults, $20 for kids isn't bad, but $20 for a toddler seems crazy. i would definitely call and clarify.

I agree with @brownie- bring your own food and tell them LO isn't eating. This is always my backup plan, but most places don't even think to charge under 2 years old.

We've done a buffet for Thanksgiving and I probably paid at least $20. I think she was 18 months old so she did eat a good amount of food. Not $20 worth, for sure, but they also charge more on holidays possibly?

I wouldn't mind paying something - my 18 month old sometimes ate a lot. I would NOT pay $20 for her.

Thanks everyone, I'll probably call again and ask to speak with the manager just to clarify. I wasn't sure if I would be coming off as a cheap jerk for even asking. I don't mind paying for LO but $20 seems excessive. Maybe it's just the holiday mark-up that we have to deal with.
