I thought it would be a lot of fun to host a 'Couples Game Night', and with everyone so hectic around the Holidays I want to schedule it for February. I thought President's Day weekend would be a great idea since most of my friends will be off that Monday, but when I looked at the calendar - that also happens to be Valentine's Day weekend. V-Day is on Friday and I am thinking of having the party on Saturday the 15th. Do you think that will interfere with couple's plans, or become their plans? All of the couples are married if that makes a difference, and I plan on getting invites out in early January.

We aren't Valentine's people. Always just do a nice dinner at home. So I think a game night would be fun!

Sounds fun and that is the day after VDay. I don't celebrate holidays on non-holiday days so that wouldn't bother me, plus VDay is on a Friday anyway.
Have you thought of incorporating any cheeky Vday stuff in the games or menu? Ex: Cupid's Hangover punch (alcoholic) or Cure (non-alcoholic)

Some people might want to go out Saturday instead of Friday so I voted puppies. It sounds fun but you might have couples that have alternate plans.

I'd go because I LOVE game nights!!! And I could always go out for Valentine's Day Friday night, Saturday afternoon, Sunday, etc.

I would personally prefer to go to your party than celebrate Vday since both DH and I think it's a stupid fake holiday where couples are totally exploited.

I would totally go! We don't celebrate Valentines day really and we never ever go out to dinner for it because crowds are nuts and I can eat out with my husband any time I want. I think it would be really fun have something else to do that weekend that wouldn't require battling throngs of people.

My DH and I don't usually do anything big for valentine's day. That said, we may not go to this party anyway because our anniversary is just a few days after Valentine's day, so we would probably be away that weekend. That is very specific to us though!
Still, I think it'd be best to not schedule it for Valentine's Day weekend since it is a "couples" game night, unless you make it Valentine's day themed. Some couples may not be available because they do celebrate Valentine's day and would rather do something "festive".

I think I would reschedule it. Game night sounds fun, but we always make it a point to do something special with just the two of us for Valentine's.

Thanks for all the different points of view. I know that holiday means more to some than to others. I think I am going to stick with the 15th and assume a lower than normal 'yes' RSVP %.

we usually do a game night with friends in january. i think if you make it a v-day themed game night for couples it could be fun. especially since everyone will have plenty of notice.

Here's my thought. Hubs and I actually do celebrate Vday. We don't spend a ton of money on presents or anything but we usually go out to a nice dinner. I think it's a nice reminder to focus on the one you love, and to enjoy each other. Because we have a baby, it's easier to go out on Saturday nights than to try to get home from work on Friday, get the baby settled after day care, get the babysitter over, and then head back out. So we probably would celebrate on Saturday. Even if we did celebrate on Valentine's Day, then going to your party would mean finding a babysitter (and being away from my baby) two nights in a row. Just something to think about...
In general I LOVE game night. And if I didn't have kids... this would be a no brainer to make that date work.
