It's weird that he wants you to RSVP before you have even gotten an invitation... What's with that?

Do you WANT to go? I always like going to weddings, especially if friends are going to be there. You could always hang out with your friends between 12:30 and 7:00, right? Presumably they weren't invited to the lunch either. And maybe you could bring some snacks since you have to eat at certain times? Or maybe you could ask what the food options will be like before you RSVP and explain your GD and dietary restrictions.

I would probably go, and just make sure to bring lots of snacks!

@MrsCB: What if you just went to the ceremony and skipped the reception?

To be honest... this sounds like a B-List invite.

IE they had to pay for a certain amount of people... and they got too many rejects that they have to start invited their B-listers.

I don't know what culture this is... But I'm Chinese...

I can see that they have a wedding... then a lunch (for us this might have been the tea cermony which only direct family is invited to) and of course the reception later. We had enough funds to provide an after wedding appertizers/lunch buffet to guest that were not part of the tea cermony but not all couples can do that. ^_^ IE I don't think it's weird to not be invited to a "lunch" thing.

I would probably go... because hey you can see your other friends and weddings are usually fun.

I generally enjoy wedding so I would go. You don't sound thrilled about it though. At 25 weeks pregnant, I was still fine doing almost anything. Usually most women feel really great during the second trimester. Sounds like there is a large break from ceremony to reception, so you could get yourself something to eat then. Bring snacks and water and you'll be ok. But if you're not up to it, just send your DH or don't go at all.

Only go if you actually want to go! don't feel obligated just because you are invited.

That said, regarding the food restrictions, i find that wedding vendors are very good at handling this. I have serious restrictions and always find the manager as soon as i get there and he goes through every detail of the menu with me, and, if necessary, makes me something completely different to suit my needs. If you are really nervous, you can also call ahead and speak with them. I also always carry snacks because i can't eat at the cocktail hour, or dessert, and it helps to have something on hand in case you get hungry.

@MrsCB: I just saw you said the wedding is Indian and wanted to add that we attended an Indian wedding last summer and we had to sit on the floor for about 2hrs. It was very traditional though and in a kind of mosque... if this is in a hotel it may well be seated, but wanted you to be aware as I don't think I would have been comfortable sat on the floor at 25wks!

From my experience, they invite certain people to certain events based on the relationship. So there were people who were only at the reception and not the ceremony, night before, etc. But, the traditional Indian wedding I went to was morning ceremony and lunch, break and dinner/reception. Both meals were entirely Indian food - the lunch was vegetarian. DH and I don't really eat Indian food so we ate in between the two, just in case there wasn't anything we wanted/liked. Two different dress codes are recommended for the two events - the morning ceremony, ironically, is very casual. People got up and walked around, talked, etc. You could bring food with you and it would be fine. The evening reception is a little fancier.

It's a little weird to ask for an early RSVP. Especially because Indian weddings are known to be very big.

I went to a good friend's Indian wedding a few years ago and it was one of the funnest weddings I'd ever been to, even though I was about four months pregnant and almost passed out in the heat/ The groom came in on a horse, and during the dinner reception members of their families performed skits and a musical number (with choreography!) about the bride and groom. The food was really good, too. It will probably be served buffet style, so you can control what you're eating pretty well. I suspect they'll serve pretty familiar Indian stuff (chicken curry, basmati rice, saag paneer), healthy for the most part but cooked in ghee (don't know if fat is a concern in GD), so if you decide to go you may want to Google Indian cookery.

Wow...that's a long ceremony! Is it possible to come up with a reason to just go to the reception? Sitting that long watching a wedding sounds awful to me, even not pregnant!
