I think the inclination of parents (historically) has been to have stricter rules and curfews for girls, and let the boys get away with murder (i.e. give them more freedom, a later curfew, etc.).
Were you treated the same by your parents as any boys in your family? As a parent, do you think you'd be more protective of a girl than a boy as a teen or pre-teen?

We were both girls, but things were stricter for me since I was the oldest and setting the examples I guess. I definitely hope to be as consistent as possible work all of my kids.

I would start off with the same curfew and adjust it in time pending their actions.
That is what my parents did and it worked out well. If you were caught breaking curfew or in a lie.. your curfew was cut dramatically. If you proved you could be trusted and honest, you were given the freedom you deserved.

I can't stand this. DH says it all the time "My daughter will xyz" and follows it with "If it's a boy, he'll probably just x"
Why is any of that different? I don't know why this irritates me haha. It also annoys me with older/younger siblings. My sister did all the reckless things so I got punished for them, my parents were much more strict on me.

I only have a sister and because I was younger my parents tended to just let me do whatever my older sister got to do (more lenient on me).
For my kids, it isn't so much about boy vs. girl but about individual personalities. Some individuals are more mature than others at different ages and I would/will set the rules to match the individual.

My parents were more strict with my brother than with me. But that was due to combination of him being older, and him being more irresponsible and needing stricter rules. I think limits will be placed on our children based on their personality and behaviour, not their gender.

I'd like to think that I would treat both kids equally (if we end up with a boy and a girl), buttttttttt I know what I was like as a teenager compared to what the hubs was like... so if our kids turn out anything like us, I think we'll be more strict with DD.

My parents were less strict with me, but that's because my awesome older sister paved the way for me 
DH's sister complained that their parents were WAY less strict with him than they were with her because he was a boy. I think it was just second child syndrome.

My parents were more strict with me than my older brother . . . it always bothered me because I was a really good, responsible kid! For example, at 17, my brother could stay out until midnight whereas I could stay out until 10:30, and sometimes 11:00 for a special event.

Neither of us had a curfew--we just had to let them know when we would be home/be reachable. But they were more strict with me since i was older! There were things I couldn't do at 13 that my brother could do at 12. I can't remember any now; it was probably really minimal.

For sure. My parents weren't very strict with me, but I can see DH being lax with a curfew. Not happenin!

I'd have the same, regardless. The only DH says about rules is that if LO was going to be a boy, he'd make him mow the lawn. I plan on teaching her how to anyways, because it's a good skill to have!

I will have the same rules, but DH doesn't agree. My parents were very lax with both my brother and I. My dad's idea pf a curfew was "try to get home before the sun rises." My mom didn't care if my bro had sex in HS, but she was very clear that would not fly wihg me

It worked out really well because you couldn't really get mad at them - you could only blame yourself for ruining your chances. They were pretty strict with my brother at times (breaking the rules) but I was always very honest with them and was able to do the things that I wanted. They always knew where I was and had a way to contact me.
It made it easy to be open and honest with them.. because it was beneficial to both parties.

My brother didn't really have a fixed curfew (but he never went out anyway) but mine was very strict. 9pm in middle school, 10pm in high school and when I was home from college.
