I don't really see a benefit to leaving the child anywhere alone...

In a back yard, safe area, fenced, door open and in close proximity, I don't see a problem...

I haven't personally done it, but I wouldn't be overly opposed. Isn't this a big thing in Denmark or something?

I wouldn't do it. But I know my mum and MIL used to without a second thought.

I would in the scenario you described but I would make sure we were sitting somewhere where we could see her in the garden. Our gate from our garden to the road isn't a secure gate yet (anyone can open it), so I won't do it now, but once we get a new gate, I'll have no problem leaving my LO sleeping in the pram whilst I go in to the kitchen to get started on dinner or whatever. I wouldn't take LO1 upstairs for a bath and leave LO2 outside, or anything like that, but if I'm in a position where I can keep an eye on her, I see no problem with it.

Under the right circumstances I would be fine with this. We have a sliding glass door from our kitchen to our backyard. If I could see LO and the yard was fenced, sure. LO would get more sleep that way, cuz no way is he staying asleep through a transfer, lol.

I wish our yard was fenced in because I would be fine with opening the windows and letting her run around while I was nearby. I'm picturing the yard as very secure

i don't think i would, it depend on how private/secure the yard is i guess. and if i could see her the whole time.

However, i would not wake her and bring her inside either. I would keep walking or sit outside with her until she woke on her own and enjoy the extra fresh air myself!

I would probably do it if I could set up a video monitor. Otherwise probably not, unless I was going to stay in a part of the house where I could very easily hear her if she started to fuss. However, I definitely would NOT do it (or anything) if MIL was trying to force a point like you described. That is not a good precedent to set.

I would probably be ok with running inside to use the bathroom and grab a drink, but I don't think I would leave her outside for longer than that if I couldn't see her and hear her. Even if I could see her the whole time I wouldn't go inside liger than to fix a snack and go back outside. I'm paranoid and also haven't had a backyard in 15 years- city living makes this seem crazy.

If it was secure and we were close by I would be okay with it.
