I was super lucky last year to have a raised garden box with sprinklers. This year I have my own backyard!
What things would your kids eat from a garden? Zucchini and green beans were surprising winners last year, but I want to keep adding more to my son's palate

Tomatos! Edible flowers...peppers...
Thats what we do (in addition to zuchinni & green beans).
I plan to grow some carrots this year too!

Also cucumbers and carrots - they're easy to grow and my kid will eat them straight from the garden!

DD ate everything from the garden, especially if I let her pick it and eat it right there. Kale, chard, and herbs were surprising favorites. I actually have one little chard plant that survived the winter, and she picked all the leaves off yesterday and ate it!

We've planted: Cucumbers, bell peppers, cherry tomatoes, strawberries (in hanging pots), zucchini, artichoke, spinach, and some herbs (basil, thyme, oregano, fennel).
We are using planter boxes spread around our yard since we are in a rental. My oldest loves helping in the garden.

DS eats almost anything if he sees it growing in a garden, as long as it can be eaten straight off the bush. If it needs cooking, all bets are off - he can be all over picking and preparing it, and then turn his nose up at the result

@Mama Bird: That is my son too. He loves helping in the garden but when it comes time to actually eat it... the only things he will eat are the strawberries and bell peppers. Sometimes cucumbers.

DS loves helping in the garden and loves to pick & eat.
Cherry tomatoes, peas & beans are favourites.

I don’t have a green thumb but would love to have alittle garden. Not much knowledge here. @codeitall: was the zucchini and green beans hard to grow?
@KT326: Do you recommend the hanging pots? Did it cause any bugs?

Totally honest, I bought the zucchini and green bean plants as baby plants from the nearby greenhouse, and they both went WILD. I obviously planted way too many and had to pawn some off on neighbors haha. I will say though that the zucchini plants really were a bug haven. If we didn't grab the zucchini at the optimal time because of vacation, it would start to rot, and I had a TON of stinkbugs laying eggs all over the leaves. So I ripped most of them out before the season was over.

@cake2017: We only have the strawberries in hanging pots. No bugs so far. Everything else is in planter boxes. We do get bugs on the artichoke plant, it didn't produce anything last year so we are trying to be proactive this year to keep the bugs away. My husband is the gardener, I just water when he is gone! I have a black thumb.

Haha, my kid won’t eat anything out of the garden, even juicy fresh peas! I’m jealous of you guys who have started already. My garden looks like this. I have plans for tomatoes, cukes, pumpkin, potatoes, jalenpenos, peas, carrots, onions though.
