No. I have a black thumb. The only thing we have in our yard is cacti.

I have a 5x5 foot space in my backyard that would be PERFECT for a garden. Has good soil in it, and is sectioned off with bricks.......buut we just got a puppy, so I'm afraid he will dig it up. But I might try it out anyways. Maybe put some chicken wire up around it

Yes, but only because my MIL loves to garden and tends it for us as both DH and I have huge black thumbs. We grow garlic, tomatoes, peppers, romaine lettuce, and a ton of flowers.

Yes! I'm going to start planting this weekend! Lettuce, spinach and snow peas for now. Tomatoes, peppers, squash and basil later.

Yep! Started it up again last weekend. Peas and carrots are among the first seeds to go in.

No. I want one so bad but there's a no-dig rule where we live and I don't want to have a bunch of pots all over my yard.

My next door neighbor is planting one between our houses. We're paying her to do our half.

@grizz: I heard planting basil by your tomatoes make them taste better. Not sure I believe it, but willing to give it a try!

@swurlygurl: Basil and tomatoes are my motivating factor for wanting to start our garden! Last summer I would eat caprese stacks every. single. day. A slice of buffalo mozzarella, tomato slices, and basil shreds with a drizzle of balsamic vinegar = HEAVEN.

@grizz: Oh, that sounds so amazing. Making me dream of warm summer afternoons!
I made my own mozzarella one time... If I used that with garden tomatoes and basil for caprese, that would be an incredible home-grown/made snack!

I love gardening but I have not garden in a while since the birth of my son two months ago. I love planting herbs because they are easy to grow and they make food taste great without the added amount of salt/sugar. We recently bought a home where the previous owners had planted tomatoes, cabbages, and kale but they were dying. The house also came with 3 orange trees, 3 lemon trees, a grapefruit tree, and a guava tree which makes for good juicing and making ceviche. I wish it came with an avocado tree, then I would be making guacamole every day. Once my son is older, then I would go back to gardening again since we have space for it.

We have a huge garden, 110ft long. We moved in a year ago and it was a jungle - it took me all spring to salvage the established plants that I wanted to keep and then plant up the areas I'd cleared - flowers, shrubs and herbs near the house (plus a little tomato patch) and a veg patch further down the garden. Unfortunately, we had the wettest summer in living memory last year and, veg wise, what didn't get washed away was eaten by a plague of slugs! I was heartbroken!
Here are some photos taken before the rain started! I love my garden! I hope I have the energy to tend to it when the weather perks up here - if it ever perks up!!

@cherrybee Pretty!
We had a small vegetable garden last year (6x6) but I lost steam half way through the summer. I'd like to try again this year, but now that we're expecting in Nov. I'm not sure I'd be up for it.

We have a HUGE one every year. We plant almost anything that will grow here. I am so jealous of those of you who can start planting already

Sure do!
I have two flower beds in the front, several flower beds in the back, and a couple apple trees in the back as well. This year we are going to plant carrots and lettuce near the apple trees.

We have some nice big raised beds for vegetables, but no plans to put anything in them this year. We need to work on that! LO has been keeping us busy, plus we got discouraged last year when our dogs decided they loved tomatoes and ate them all as soon as they were ripe. Then we put in a fence so the dogs couldn't get to the garden beds, and squirrels started eating all of our greens
