We were at the playground and a little boy, around 2.5 - 3 y.o., had to pee so his dad took him off to the side, pulled down his pants, and let him pee. Hmmm...not sure how I feel about that. There are public restrooms there.
Keeping a travel potty in your car (or stroller or diaper bag) is another option. We do that.

Noooo, I don't like the idea of my kid playing where someone else's has peed, or worse! Was it out of the way or where other kids could stand in it?

@travelgirl1: it was just off to the side in the grass ... I guess it is really no different than dog pee. Anyway, yeah, not a fan either!

Why on earth would you want to teach a young boy that it's ok to have his private parts out when he is out in public around strangers?!

That is not okay! I used to nanny for these boys that peed on a tree in their front yard. Their parents thought it was normal and cute. I thought it was inappropriate.

Most definitely would not let my kid pee outside in public. Very gross and inconsiderate of those who play at the playground.

If it were an *emergency*, with no restrooms in sight and a child who's just potty training, then I'd probably hustle them to a private area. Not in the middle of the playground where anyone can see.

Absolutely not in the middle of the playground, or if there were public restrooms. I'd try my best to get them to a bathroom, but if it were between going to a private spot or peeing their pants, I would go to a private area.
