Or maybe the title should read: Would you?
Risk putting your infant carrier on the top portion of a shopping cart/buggy
or
Risk letting your toddler ride on a riding lawn mower with a responsible adult?

These two are not even close to being the same type of situation in my opinion.
The voting is weird but, I have put my car seat on the shopping cart. Where is it going? I'm standing there the whole time...there are no bumps or hills or sticks or branches that we may run over in a grocery store.

I've totally put my infant seat in a shopping cart. It clicks in, I don't think it's that risky.

She sat in her infant carrier on top of the cart! What can I say, I'm a rebel!!!

Whoah. I would totally let my toddler ride on the lawn mower with her dad but would never put my infant on top of the shopping cart

@mediagirl: I agree the two things aren't really related, I am more comparing it from my own odd perspective because I considered letting her ride on the lawn mower, but NEVER put the infant seat on the top of a shopping cart. Both could cause falls but I actually think the cart thing is probably safer because there is no chance of them being cut up!

We don't have a riding lawn mower and I've never put the infant seat on top of the cart before. So I guess I would choose the cart risk over the lawn mower risk.

My infant seat clicks in on the cart, so it's not that big of a deal to me. No way would I let dd ride on a moving lawnmower.

@runsyellowlites: @Rainbow Sprinkles: I totally agree that is my perspective but when I think about it, the mower is actually probably more dangerous (I guess more dangerous in the sense that the damage could be more severe).
Any one know the statistics on how often each type of accident might actually occur?

@T.H.O.U.: This doesn't specify age or exact circumstance but it says ~21k a year are injured in cart accidents & the second says ~17k a year are seen in the er due to lawn mower accidents.

I always see people putting the infant seat on the shopping cart and I tried it when J was a newborn and idk how they do it- way too risky IMO! It wasn't secure at all. Maybe my bucket seat was shaped weird?!?
But I grew up always mowing the lawn on my dads lap!!! He did it with all six of us kids I would totally let J do that with his dad once he's about 2-3 years old.

I have put the chicco seat in the target cart because I can wedge it in (it does not click) but I literally hold it in place while I push the cart (I kind of hug it and push holding the child seat). I look silly, but honestly sometimes I didn't have a choice. I probably did it once or two times, the other times I put her in the ergo, the seat in the big part, or put her in her own stroller and wedged things in the basket and into the seat under the carseat.
I've never put her in the top part at other stores because her seat didn't even come close to fitting in!

We have always put LO in the shopping cart ever since he was a newborn, it just clicked right in, I don't see the risk in that, but could if it wasn't secure?

this is tough - i would never put the infant seat on top of the car - I've read too many horror stories. I always just put him in the moby/wrap/ergo.
the lawn mower thing it didn't freak me out before but it does now after reading that article!

I know a friend of a friend who lost her baby because he toppled out of the cart onto his head so I won't be doing that.

I've put DS's infant seat on top of the shopping cart. I didn't know you weren't supposed to until he was close to outgrowing it. DH & I usually went grocery shopping together and would get two carts, one for groceries and one to put the seat in the basket part.

This thread is making me so sad. I'm not pregnant yet but all this talk of injuries (and death) is so scary and sad. I didn't realize that you weren't suppose to put an infant seat in a shopping cart.

I have done both, lo always sits on dh'd lap when mowing the lawn. I can see why some carts could be dangerous if the seat doesn't fit properly but 9/10 times out seat snaps right in there and is secure and I have never had a cart come close to tipping over unless I was running around a corner like a complete maniac.

I've done the shopping cart one...but I don't have a toddler yet so I can't speak to the other one. I imagine I'd do that too depending where the lawn mower was going, who the adult was, etc. It'd be a rare occasion though.
