I think my ideal would be to go part-time, working maybe 3 school days a week.
Sadly, this was a real possibility in my old school district in Texas, where they would let teachers/staff "job share"--as in two taechers sharing one teaching assignment, splitting the salary in half.
My new school district in NJ is tiny and doesn't offer that (sad, sad face). I would love to suggest that they let me go part-time and employ a paraprofessional or teacher's assistant the other two days a week--it would save them money overall, but on the other hand, I don't want to make myself obsolete, you know?

After a 6.5 month maternity leave, I can safely say that I could never SAH. I love baby to bits, but I think WOH is the perfect balance for us. I have a really good job with excellent hours, 30 days vacation and great benefits, plus my commute is only 15 mins.

I'm a WOHM right now. Only part-time, but eventually i'll have to be full time. I would prefer to be a SAHM. Not forever though.

It is hard to say as we don't have LOs yet....BUT I will most likely always be the primary breadwinner so I'm pretty sure I'll never get to SAH! But I also love being out and doing work (and all the cute work clothes) so I think I'll be just fine WOH.

I WOHM full time, but would love to cut down to parttime. I love what I do but would also love to stay home!

I've been SAHing for the past two years and I wouldn't trade that time for all the money in the world. Our lifestyle may be grander if I worked but I think our quality of life would be greatly diminished. Socialization, educational enrichment, my DD gets all that through all of the playgroups and other activities we participate in. As for housework, DH and I split it 50-50. He understands my job is mom, not maid.

Love being a sahm. I chose to be a sahm, so, i guess I'd rather be that!

I stayed home for 7-months with DD before I went back to work full time, and I have to say I prefer being a WOHM. Probably because I like the people I work with, I like my job, and I have a great manager. My job offers me a lot of flexibility so I can WFH a few times a week too. If I had a different job that I dreaded then that would be a different story. I do also like bringing home income and knowing I can support our family if anything were to ever happen to DH.
As much as I love my LO, I think if I was a SAHM 24/7 I would go bonkers. Major props to those who do it!

No baby yet but when the time comes, I'll be a SAHM. I've never been much of a fan of daycare (the experience or the cost) so I'd prefer to stay home with my baby over the alternative.
I have a few SAHM friends who are local and some of my close family members don't work so I imagine I'll have loads of adult interaction. If it was just me and an infant/toddler for 9 hours a day, I'd probably lose my mind.

Am I terrible for saying I would much rather be a WOHM? I've never experienced it, have only been a SAHM and it looks like I get to be one for at least another year but I miss doing more.

@NaturallyCathy: nope! I would gladly go back to work for the right job. Right now I'm a SAHM/WAHM. It's gotten better, but I do miss working in an office (and benefits).

Like others, I would ideally work outside of the home 2-3 days a week. If I had to choose between SAH and WOH full-time I would 100% choose to be a SAHM.

I work about 20ish hours a week and that is full time... I love my career and plan to WOHM ..especially since it isn't 40 hours a week. If I had to choose between 40hrs a week or SAHM - I would likely choose being a SAHM

@Mrs. Yoyo: I miss my classes - I haven't finished university yet - and I miss my on-campus jobs. I worked in the President's office as an administrative assistant, or close as I could be without actually being fully hired by the university. Just a student but I actually helped write the President's letters, which made me feel like I was doing something worth while.

I love working and making my own money!! But, there are days I would loveeee to SAH! There are days I hate dropping off at daycare when he is being cute and sweet, or when he is sick and I know he's better off with me at home. I feel like I could feed him more and better since he is EBF if I were a SAHM. I love working and love my job and independence it gives me though. Tough!

I've done both-- SAHM for 18 months with Wagon Jr. before he started in daycare, and WOHM with LMW (went back after 9 weeks), but I'm part time (started at 3 days a week, then ramped back up to my regular 4 days a week). So I get the best of both worlds-- I have three days at home and four days at work. and on Mondays I'm home all alone with LMW (Wagon Jr. goes to daycare all 5 days). I absolutely love it! I do feel like I spend too little time with LMW but I really cherish each moment with her. I was miserable as a SAHM... I'm just not built for it. By the time Wagon Jr. was 1, we had a schedule and went to classes and playdates every day, but I really struggled the entire time. I'm much happier being a working mom.
