Just curious about others' preferences! If the square footage was the same, would you rather live in a home with more, smaller rooms, or fewer, bigger rooms?
We're about to move apartments and are going with the bigger room option, but it makes me a little nervous to be "losing" rooms! Even though we'll have the same, or maybe even more, space, am I going to feel more cramped with fewer rooms? We're leaving a 3-bedroom that has 6 rooms (plus a bathroom) for a 2-bedroom with 3 rooms (plus a bathroom and a large patio) that are about the same square footage.
Now, each of the bedrooms (or in our case, bedroom, nursery, and office) in our 3-bedroom are tiny--like, our bedroom is the largest and only fits our bed, with one side pushed against the wall (dh is very excited to be moving to a place where he can get into bed from the side, not the foot of the bed, haha). The best thing about our current apartment is that we have a large living/dining room area--it's technically 2 rooms, but with an opening where there used to be french doors. The kitchen is separate from the living/dining area. Both dh and I work from home; my desk is in the dining room and he has an office that also doubles as his closet/dresser. The rooms are all connected by a really, really long hallway, which is basically wasted square footage since we can't fit anything there.
Our new apartment has a huge, open concept room that is a kitchen, living room, dining room, and my "office" all in one. The 2 bedrooms are much larger so dh's office furniture will comfortable fit in our bedroom, and dd's nursery will have much more room for her to play. There's also more closet space overall, including a walk-in (yay!). And a patio where we'll have a water/sand table for dd and a nice bench or something (I haven't had outdoor space since moving out of my parents' house when I was 18, so this is huge!).
So whatcha think? More rooms or bigger rooms?
)
We have a bunch of rooms... I wish they were all bigger... and I would definitely take less if I could trade for that.
