In Canada, you aren't allowed to sell your eggs, you can only give them away (the recipients can pay for the retrieval process only). I wouldn't do it for free, but when I was in University I would have done it for the right amount of money.

@MsMini: that's what I thought. In Canada we don't get compensation for eggs just like we don't for blood. If they did compensate I would only do it if I was really desperate money wise.

I would. I wouldn't do it for the money but to be able to help a couple have a child would be amazing. I'm always trying to give back to the community. I volunteer and I donate blood regularly. I even just signed up to be a bone marrow registry. I'm healthy and there are some people who aren't. I would love to help in any way that I can.

@MissAdia and @MerryC was it very painful? A friend of mine is indeed interested in this but I must say she is interested in the monetary compensation mostly. I don't know enough about the procedure to give her any real life information above what medical books say.
@MissAdia does donating twice have higher risks than only once?

@Miss Adia: I'm confused too. I thought you were Miss Tattoo, but Katydid's comment confused me.
Did you donate your eggs after all? I can't figure it out...

Eek! Typo! I just noticed. (I just got 5 emails from Hellobee all at once) This site is not friendly on my phone. What I meant to say was I'm glad that I DID do it in the end despite the stats being against me. I've heard horror stories of it messing up your body, but needed the money.
It's not instant though like I said. There wasn't a rush for black female eggs.
I'm sorry! I have to look at my posts better.
After the long screening process of medical appointments, screening, background checks for criminal records/DUI's/anything really, etc, you go through I think two phases. First part is to take all of the drugs. You kind of feel like a farm factory cow that's injected with hormones to produce more milk. Your stomach feels swollen like you are pregnant. Then they harvest the eggs. It takes months to even be chosen as a donor and those who are chosen are invited back to donate again. In the end, I'm glad I only did it twice because the side effects were terrible. I bet the sudden chin hair that I have is because of it.
The behavioral tests are the worst. They ask you questions about how you would react in some situations/how your anger level is/how chill you are/ if you are too relaxed/are you easily pushed around/are you a bully/do you think you could lead a large group of people/are you a follower/do you have a history of depression./how do you deal with rejection/etc.
The photos they take are interesting too. You take some with the high fashion serious model face, smiling, full body, side profile (probably for your nose and chin?).
You do a video bio of yourself.
And then you go into the system and wait.
P.S. I would like to keep the Tattoo stigma from this account. ^_^

@MrBee-Is there a way that I can private message you? I don't want to threadjack.

@Miss Adia: Sure you could post to my wall.

@Miss Adia: I'm sorry but that excuse makes absolutely no sense. That is not a typo because then the part where yous said "there wasn't a rush of people looking for black women eggs" wouldn't make sense either. Why are you making things up for a board of anonymous women?
apple seed / 2 posts
Right. A typo would be, for example, saying on one forum that you donated in 2008 and on another that you donated in 2009. The statement made here is a complete contradiction of a previous statement.

@Mrs. Maple Leaf: It was a typo. There isn't a rush to get black female eggs so your turn around is not as quick as a young white female.
I'm constantly choosing weren't/over were, would/wouldn't. I just hit the next word that comes up on my phone.
I'm sorry.

@Miss Adia: If it was just a typo your other statements wouldn't make sense. You can try to back pedal, but now everyone knows that you are dishonest and your "stories" are just that stories. Why you saw the need to make things up I don't know but it is really sad.

DH and I have discussed the idea of donating eggs. I never did do it though. It's actually pretty common for military wives to donate eggs and even become surrogates. I know several women who have done it.

Miss Adia has explained what she meant, so let's move on...
I'm going to go ahead and close this thread...
