@MsLipGloss: LOL really?! One of my old law professors said she couldn't join the FBI bc she smoked weed! (maybe she lied about it). Another one of our friends got cut too because he smoked.
Maybe they're not as strict now..?

@chopsuey: I have multiple close family members in the FBI. They always say as a youthful indiscretion (and don't lie about it) you're fine. But, they get random drug tested often. And probably like having their jobs!
ETA: An aunt and uncle are in narcotics, another in gangs. Not areas where they'd be cool with you lighting up every now and again lol! My DH is trying to get on in fraud and white collar crime.

@chopsuey: Depends on what their current needs are, but yeah, it's not an across the board deal breaker.

@allison: "Probably should've just eaten half" is basically the mantra of every person I've ever hung out with after eating edibles! Did you see this about a cop who confiscated weed and made brownies and then thought he was dead? Pretty funny:

It is "decriminalized" where I live, so under a certain amount is just a small fine, I think. I don't know anyone in real life who hasn't smoked pot. It's not my thing, but legal/illegal hasn't had much to do with that decision. I just don't like it. Wish I did, honestly, because it's calorie free relaxation as opposed to my current indulgence of calorie bomb micro brewed beer.

I smoked it plenty of times in college, and through my early or mid 20's, but I'm not really interested in it anymore. It was fun them but now I'm an old fart and it just makes me fall asleep.
If I lived somewhere where it was legal I might take one hit once in a while if someone offered it, but I wouldn't buy it or smoke it on a regular basis.
And I agree, edibles are much more unpredictable and often more potent than smoking.

@Silva: It's only calorie-free if you don't raid the house and eat every single item of junk food in one sitting. You're probably better off with the beer.
persimmon / 1447 posts
I voted no. But I also don't drink alcohol either. I wouldn't look down on those who use responsibly.
persimmon / 1177 posts
I did it plenty when I was a teenager, so I think it would be interesting to do again now that I'm "grown up" to see if it's as fun as I used to think.
I'd only do it if any kids were out of the house (maybe staying with grandparents or something?) and definitely not while I'm pregnant. And it wouldn't be something that happened frequently- maybe once or twice a year?

Agreed! I live in Asheville, currently, and there is a late-night food delivery business called "Munchies N More". They will deliver fast food and convenience store fare to your door for a fee. Yikes!

Nah, at least not smoke.
I'm not a huge drinker either though.
nectarine / 2973 posts
Yes! I'm hoping California legalizes it soon. I don't really see how it's any different than drinking alcohol in terms or being irresponsible.
pomelo / 5509 posts
Yes, I would, b/c it helps with my anxiety. I don't now because well, a.) it's not legal here and b.) I feel like there's a stigma against functioning adults partaking in that.
watermelon / 14467 posts
Nope. I tried it in college and it gave me the worst sore throat. I probably wouldn't eat anything with it in it either.
bananas / 9628 posts
i'm kind of surprised how many have never tried it! and yes, edibles are less predictable because you often don't know how much has been used in their making, but i'm totally on board with them! it's decriminalized where i live, you can carry up to one ounce, if you're being as ass about it, the cops can give you a ticket ($100), but i've never heard of an adult actually getting a ticket for it though. alcohol is far more dangerous to the body & can cause physical dependance, pot doesn't. you can't snap out of being drunk, but unless you're insanely high, you can snap out of it if need be. pot has been proven to help people deal with numerous medical conditions, it's not just for people wanting to get messed up. i sound like a super stoner, i'm not at all, i just think there's a lot of confusion about marijuana. i'm all for taxation & regulation across the country!
hostess / cantaloupe / 6486 posts
@lawbee11: me too.
I would probably do it occasionally but not often
honeydew / 7589 posts
I have ZERO problems with other people using it (less problems than alcohol, even), I just have no desire to try it myself.
wonderful grape / 20453 posts
It would have to be legal, federally, for me to try it! Until then, no dice. I'm totally curious, though!
nectarine / 2667 posts
In theory, I might try it on a "special occasion", not nightly (it's more expensive than wine!!) and most likely with an edible. Although, I've tried smoking/edibles a few times in the past and never felt anything from it, so in reality I probably wouldn't.
GOLD / pineapple / 12662 posts
@mrs. bird: I have never tried it . . . I was always afraid I was going to be one of the people who smoked one joint . . . and then woke up a few years later to find out that the root of all evil was a joint.
honeydew / 7687 posts
I"m with @mrs. bird on decriminalization, regulation, and taxation -- I think it's only a matter of time before it happens. With that said, never tried and have zero desire to. I don't really like being drunk (I can't really drink without being drunk... womp womp) because I don't like my reality being altered. Drugs fall in the same category. Just don't appeal to me.
cantaloupe / 6692 posts
I voted No Way just because I'm not interested. I don't think it's incredibly irresponsible (obviously you'd do it without kids around or when you weren't driving) but it's just not something that interests me. I don't have a problem with others using it responsibly (same with alcohol) though. I got high on some sort of incense in high school (legal at the time) and it just wasn't something I would want to do again!
grapefruit / 4136 posts
@mrs. bird: I agree w/taxation & regulation!
I voted "no" but not merely because it's irresponsible, I have lots of friends & family members who do, it's just not for me. I tried it in my younger days and got horribly sick, even the smell of it to this day has an association of that awful night. DH has no interest either.
I honestly don't care if people do, providing they're safe about it (just the same way I feel about people drinking) I just don't personally want to puke for long periods of time in a Taco Johns parking lot at 3am.........

this popped up on my FB news feed a couple times today, so i thought i'd pass it along for those who don't want to smoke it or eat it.... another interesting way to **enjoy** it

Nah. I live in WA state and I still don't want to...but I tried a few times before having LO's.
grapefruit / 4703 posts
Totally! Not all the time, but socially, if I had the choice between being stoned or drunk I'd choose stoned every time. I feel waaay better the next day.
Eta: this hilarious video from buzzfeed last year... Drunk vs stoned
pomelo / 5257 posts
Sure, I would occasionally, just like I drink occasionally TBH I always think it's a little strange when people who drink are vehemently opposed to pot. They're the same to me (assuming I'm somewhere pot is legal).
cantaloupe / 6059 posts
Nah, I have no interest but don't see anything wrong with responsible use.
hostess / wonderful apple seed / 16729 posts
It's legal here in WA, but I don't plan on smoking it. I'm grown now and don't need to be smoking that stuff. Though, if in a social setting, I might try it.
I did try a few times in my younger years and enjoyed it, but there's no need for it now. I might have a brownie if given the chance. I definitely wouldn't seek it out now.
Oh, the weed we have out here is so incredibly gross. I'm sure it's a certain kind of weed. If I'm taking the bus and walk about a crowd of smokers, I pretty much gag at the smell. That in itself makes me not want to do anything with it.
I didn't vote because I don't think it's irresponsble if you do it in moderation and in the safety of a home. People do it in cars way too much out here.

@shutterbug - ha ha! That's awesome! I would have love more science (how much of each intoxicant and duration) but that's pretty accurate in my experience!
As to the original question, maybe edibles. I live in CO so legality isn't a concern. I smoked a few times in college but preferred being buzzed to stoned so I haven't tried it again since. Maybe one of these days if LO is off with the grandparents.

Never tried it and not really interested now. If it were legal when I was in my early 20s I might have tried it then.

I live in CA where there's a medical marijuana shop practically on every block. I honestly don't know a single person who doesn't smoke once in a while, and some more frequently. Certainly when I was younger, college and post college, it was super common.
funny story: my boss had us over for thanksgiving. She's in her late 50s. And before we sat down to eat her husband asked us if we wanted to smoke. Haha. So yeah, super common here
