I've never been a big fan of smoking it, and have only done it a handful of times. But I have thought about it when i'm battling insomnia, which can be often.

I live in WA but I wouldn't do it. First, because it's still illegal under federal law and I could jeopardize my job if I were tested (my agency doesn't penalize for prior use, but does have a problem with use by current employees). But also, I've never been interested in trying it. I did vote for legalization when it was on the ballot, though, so obviously I have no problems with other people doing what they want.

Yup. Probably just a drag or two though, I don't like the way weed makes me feel and I don't like smoke. Just like a heavy weight that needs to eat and drink a lot of liquids. Edibles are yummy but I've had bad experiences with not pacing myself and treating the brownies like they were regular--really bad. If you had asked me this when I was 21-28, I would've said Hell yeah!

No, I have zero interest in it. Never tried it, in any form, and never will, just not my thing. Give me a glass of wine instead any time!
I don't think it's irresponsible though if common sense is applied in regards to its use, same as when consuming alcohol. I'm all for taxation and regulation, but I'll still never try it.

I would be very tempted, but hesitant. I used to...indulge...way too often in my college days and I would be afraid of becoming dependent on it. I'd probably try it, but in moderation. After all, wine is legal and I don't drink that every day

Yep, I'd totally go for it once in awhile. I'm all for legalizing marijuana. But it hurt my throat the few times I smoked it, and I actually didn't enjoy it that much.
Really surprised not more people have tried it!
hostess / wonderful watermelon / 39513 posts
I tried smoking it a few times and I didn't like it. Edibles made me really paranoid but I would try them again.

I live in WA and it is legal here, but I have no interest in smoking.
I have been high once (I ate three weed brownies) and I got so messed up I tried to check myself into the ER.
That kind of ruined it for me so I don't think I will be using MJ again, under any circumstances.

i might be interested in trying it if my kid was being taken care of by someone else and i knew that i was getting legit stuff. i know DH tried it before and it did nothing for him. our neighbors ate some cookies last year when we were out of town and the husband kept asking his wife where my DH was and when he was going to get home and then peed in the oven or something crazy. he said he was never doing it again! so eating it doesn't sound like fun to me.
the thing is, when i hear of parents smoking weed, i really think it's irresponsible... i guess in reality i don't have a lot of interest in it.
nectarine / 2220 posts
I didn't vote because I don't think it's irresponsible. No problem with others doing it but probably wouldn't do it myself. I never tried it, and don't really like the feeling of being intoxicated either, so rarely drink. And at this point, it's kind of just like... I made it 30 years without it, why start now??
And there's the whole working for the police thing.... I don't know if their policy would change if it was actually federally legal, but I'd like to keep my job While my agency doesn't typically hold historic use against you, they frown on current usage.

Sure, on occasion! I would want the baby weaned first, and definitely well away from the kiddos.
papaya / 10570 posts
I wouldn't. The thing with marijuana is it makes it okay to be bored...... y'know? Everyone I know who still uses weed now - in our thirties - is a loser. Crap jobs, less than perfect housing situations - they're generally just coasting. Still. And most of those people are suffering from the negative effects of long term use as well - the anxiety, the paranoia; they're not happy people. Now this isn't to say that everyone who smokes weed gives up on life - doctors and lawyers use it all over the country - but for my friends this has been true.
Plus, for me, I know I have an addictive personality; my use of alcohol is borderline at best. I know if I started this habit it would very quickly become a problem.

Whether it is legal or not doesnt make any difference to me, i stopped about 6 months before ttc and i would be open to doing it again once I have had my baby and weaned but I prefer making it into brownies or a cake or even pie, smoking is horrible!
honeydew / 7909 posts
Nope. Never done it and I have no desire to. I also don't drink. I'm a dud.
nectarine / 2465 posts
No , I have before in college and I really didn't like it. But I might try some brownies? haha
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
I voted no, but I don't think it's it's irresponsible. I'm just not interested!

Nope - I get drug tested at work! Wait, so if its legal in those states then I guess employers cant say no?
I might!

I am totally shocked at how many people have never tried it!
I was a more regular smoker than drinker in college, mostly because it felt safer - I was less out of control, it didn't inhibit my judgment, I didn't do stupid things out at parties - and I never felt hungover the next day. That 'phase' only lasted a year or two but I've never had issue with pot, it's no more dangerous than cigarettes or alcohol.
That being said, I haven't smoked in 10 years and wouldn't now. It's harder to regulate (ie drinks are easier to monitor because you know better how they'll affect you) and the high lasts too long now for me to feel comfortable (i can't make a 3 hour commitment to that shiz anymore). Legal isn't the issue, I'm just over it

@hummusgirl: Um yes!!! Smoking equals a little high- you can stop when you want. Eating equals a lot high! And once you feel it it's too late! Or so I hear.
As for me, I feel too old for all that stuff. If I drink nowadays, it's one glass of something. I have no desire to get high. Mah party days are through!
cantaloupe / 6800 posts
I'm VERY surprised at how many of you have never tried it!
I definitely would smoke - no question!
@Rainbow Sprinkles: to be fair, 3 brownies is usually enough to put even the most experienced smoker on their ass lol!

I don't find it that weird that a lot of people haven't tried it, I went to a drinking school, our main activity was going out to bars with our fake IDs, not sitting around the dorms getting stoned. We wouldn't have been able to get away with it...there was also no Greek system and we all pretty much lived in campus housing that was pretty well patrolled.
I don't see the appeal, honestly, nor do I see the appeal in drinking or smoking, but that's more from a health perspective than anything else. I might be of a different mind if I had a chronic pain management issue or illness.

I had a few terrible reactions in HS/college so I have no interest at all. I will stick to wine.

I voted edibles, I'd give it a try. I've done it before, never been a huge fan of it. Not really my thing (I too usually just got super sleepy) but if I could find that "fun" strain then I would give it a try. Only if LO was away for the night and we were with adults only.

@locavore_mama: I feel the exact same way. Just not interested!
cantaloupe / 6171 posts
It always had the opposite effect on me from what it's supposed to: it makes me nauseas and dizzy! So, no interest from me
wonderful olive / 19353 posts
Nope. I've never smoked anything in my life, and don't plan to. Not that I have anything against it, just not my thing.
pear / 1812 posts
Nope, I wouldn't. Me not doing it has nothing to do with it's legality or lack thereof. It makes me crazy paranoid and I feel like crap, so no.
honeydew / 7504 posts
Smoking weed always just made me tired. Brownies always gave me energy and made me laugh uncontrollably. I would wake up the next morning feeling like I did 500 crunches. Great ab workout, ha ha!
bananas / 9899 posts
Nah, it's not for me. I don't have a problem with anyone else smoking it though, as long as they don't do it near me. I may try some edibles.
Honestly, I don't see much difference between weed and alcohol, and I enjoy alcohol.
eggplant / 11287 posts
@MrsTiz: haha! I kept eAting more because "I couldn't feel anything." I didn't feel anything until I woke up in the middle of the night screaming my my head off because I thought I was dying!
grapefruit / 4862 posts
My biggest issues with it are that its illegal and that it's damaging to your lungs. So I would probably try edibles if from a place that showed how much etc. Or vaporizer or whatever the things are that isn't going to harm lungs. I know I saw someone do that in college once!
That being said it may not be for me, because I'm a crazy paranoid and anxious person as it is But I do think it should be legal and regulated for safety (and of course that includes no driving under the influence.
