I just read this fascinating article.
http://theweek.com/article/index/99512/the-last-word-he-said-he-was-leaving-she-ignored-him/
To sum it up (but PLEASE read the article!!), it's about a woman who's husband one day announces that he does not love her anymore after years of marriage and four children. Her response? "I don't buy it".
She waits it out. She doesn't threaten to leave or lawyer up. She gives him space and eventually he comes back to her.
This got me thinking about what I would do for my own relationship. If my husband one day told me he wanted to leave me (especially after 20+ years of marriage and children), what would I do?
I really admire this woman, because I am pretty sure I wouldn't have the strength to do what she did.
Don't I deserve better? Don't I deserve to be with someone who would never say such a hurtful thing?
On the other hand, no one can be the perfect partner. Is it unreasonable that a person could go through a crisis like this? Everyone experiences fear or frustration or pain... everyone makes mistakes. It's human.
I made vows to my husband that NO MATTER WHAT I would do anything in my ability to keep our family together, and I truly mean that.
This has really given me a new perspective on marriage.
