My family wants us to visit this Christmas/New Year and we'd like to start flying with LO as soon as possible. My only (small) concern is that it'll be that time of year when people are sick, and we'll be on a plane for a long time with them.
Do you think it's fine to do at 6 months? Or given your experiences over the winter, would you just stay home and travel in the spring?

We had the trip from hell this holiday season because of weather and flight cancellations. Flying with our then 19 month old and getting stuck in Baltimore at 1 am! But a 6 month old is so much more flexible and I imagine would sleep anywhere and anytime so I say go for it.

@spaniellove: oh you definitely should!!! It is not an option for us, sadly. And we live 2.5 hrs from the airport so by the time we knew our flights were cancelled we were 2.5 hours away from home!

I think it is fine! I flew (alone) internationally w/ my 9 month old and it was very easy.
Def got harder as she got older and more mobile :T

@spaniellove: I always fly direct when possible, especially with LOs. There are just too many variables (miss a flight, delays, lost baggage, long waits, etc.) if you have a connection.

Heck yeah! We travelled with a 10 month old on a 14 hour flight over Xmas and it was fine. We travelled when she was 6 months on a 4 hour flight and she was fine there too!
Agree with PP, do it while she's not mobile.......once they are mobile....it gets crazy!

I did it from London to the Midwest when C was 8 months, at Christmas.

At six months I would for sure! They're still happy to sit in your lap and still spend a lot of time sleeping at that age. Once LO becomes a toddler, it's so much more difficult.

My LO was awesome on planes at 6 months. Do it! Your LO will have been vaccinated by then so that will help protect against any serious illnesses.

We flew for the holidays at 10 months even though I was CERTAIN LO would get sick. Somehow she stayed healthy through two plane trips and multiple family parties where she was passed around to dozens of people. Do it.

We fly lots with our LO, including a cross country flight at Christmas when she was 6 months old. We started flying with her at 2 months. She has never gotten sick, even on the packed Christmas flights! It has also been totally doable - not that much different than any other public appearance with her!

We flew cross country at 3.5 months during Christmastime! I would try to find a direct flight if possible and keep people away by wearing your LO in a snug carrier.
