I hope to raise our kids on a very limited budget, even if we did have more at some point.

I'd still raise our children in a simple way.

Nope! Mo' money mo' problems I'd love for DH and I to make a combined 6-figure salary (we live in Texas, where that can go far), but really, that's it. I want to have enough to be out of student loan debt and be able to take 1-2 big trips a year, but really, that's it! My parents had a lot of money (not obscene, but enough to put them in the top 1%) and it really didn't make them happy. They still didn't save enough for their kids' college or retirement, and we never took a trip out of the country!

No. I wouldn't say my aunt and uncle have an obscene amount of money, but my uncle's business has succeeded and they have literally gone from living in my grandparents' basement to being millionaires over the last 20 years. They have changed SO much, and their kids are just terrible awful spoiled people.

I wouldn't mind making enough to be comfortable - i.e., able to stay home while our kids are little, be debt free, travel a little - but I would never want to have an obscene amount of money. My parents were dirt poor from the time I was born until I was around 7th-8th grade and I don't think I realized it until they told me so when I was 25

I would love to have that kind of money. I don't think I'd be throwing my kid 100k parties though. DH and I have talked about this and we agreed we'd keep everything the same and just *knowing* we were comfortable and set is enough. We'd definitely splurge more on travel and updating the house, probably nicer cars, but that's about it. Then we'd set up our will in hopes of creating financial stability for future generations to be set but that no one could just leech off it. They'd get enough to make life easier, but not enough to not have to work. ahh.. one can dream...

DH grew up with gobs of money and he turned out ok. So yeah, I'll take the obscene amount of money.

Just because you have a lot of money doesn't mean that you will necessarily spend it on unreasonable or wasteful things like that. To me, having a lot of money means having the freedom to do the kind of work that you want, live where you want, and enjoy the leisure activities you want! Who wouldn't want that?

I do agree though that it's a challenge to raise kids when you're very wealthy...DH's boss is a multi millionaire and takes his kids on these lavish vacations to India, Africa, Australia, etc. They're amazing experiences but I wonder if they think that traveling like that is "the norm".

I would like lots of money. I would spread it out to my family and contribute lots to different organizations. I would love to travel everywhere. However, I would like to have a reasonable size house and still do everything myself like cleaning, gardening etc.

I'd just like to have enough to live where we want to live, with a lot of land and to be able to send our daughter to private grade school and college...

We-ell I think there are pros and cons. It's nice to have money of course but unless I have a SERIOUSLY obscene amount I'll always worry about how to maintain/keep it for the future. It doesn't take long for money to disappear....

That said, I was totally spoiled as a kid and I like to think I turned out ok. My mom always warned me that she wouldn't be subsidizing my lifestyle when I moved out, and I was cool with that.

I'd love to have that much money--mainly so that we could be comfortable and debt-free, and so I could be a SAHM. But other than that, I don't think I would drastically change our living conditions. I don't want my children to be ill-prepared to work when they are adults and have to live in the real world.

I would love to have all that money, only I wouldn't change that much about how we live now. It just would be so nice to have to worry/stress about money.

@Smurfette: I agree. While I may make a couple of changes here and there that I wouldn't otherwise , the idea of taking money as a factor out of any and every equation is what appeals the most to me.

We will raise LO the same no matter how much money we had. We are on a pretty tight budget right now and it will probably stay that way. Even if I had $100,000 to spend on a party I absolutely would not. Such a waste of money.

Yep. I would want to not worry about bills, set up funds for our kids to be financially secure, and donate the rest and spend the rest of my life doing charitable things and pursuing my hobbies and traveling.

I would NOT spend an obscene amount of money on ridiculous things such as $100K birthday party.

I wouldn't mind having a lot of money, but you better believe my kids wouldn't act like that. I grew up fairly poor and have always known the value of a dollar.

I would LOVE to have tons of money. I think many of the minor problems we have would be solved with money. More space, more time together and money to spend on activities, new clothes (lol). I think I could have a grounded family even with lots of money.

Um, yes I wouldn't spend it on my kid's birthday parties but hell yeah, I wish we had a ton of money! Not that I can complain about our financial status in any way but there's a lot of amenities in NYC that I would take advantage of if we had tons of money (car service, doorman apartment, travel, etc)!

Yes please!!! I don't think we'll ever get to a point where we don't want to make more money... being loaded doesn't make you awful, being awful makes you awful! lol!
