I know that here, unless there's medical reason, doctors prefer to wait as long as possible (max 42 weeks) before induction. I'm seeing my doctor on tuesday (if I haven't given birth yet) and I'm really considering asking that I get induced at 40weeks (meaning on my due date) rather than 41 weeks but I don't think it will fly.
Would your doctor induce you before the 41 week mark if you requested it?

Don't know, didn't ask. I wanted to do anything possible not to be induced so I would want to wait. I had an induction scheduled for 41 weeks but went into labor naturally on my due date.

Yep! My OB and I talked about inducing me 2 days before my due date! I ended up canceling the induction and letting nature take its course!

@artbee: @chopsuey119: I was hoping for a natural "labour" for Mavrick but that didn't happen and with a 9lb baby... he needed to get out otherwise I would of had a c-section.
I honestly would love for nature to take it's course this time around, but it's been 3 weeks of on and off, and my body is just so tired. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I don't make it to the OB appt on tuesday. ha.

No, he said I had to be 41 weeks and I didn't ask for any earlier since I really did not want to be induced. I ended up going into labor on my own. Sorry you have been through so much but you are almost to the finish line!

My doctor said he would be willing beginning at 39 weeks. I almost scheduled it for 39 weeks, but I decided to wait until my due date at least...I was 1 day shy of my due date when I was induced

No, but now I'm hoping my doc will induce at 41 weeks if it comes to that. I can't imagine having to wait until 42 weeks. If that happens, I will be one cranky pregnant chick!

I wanted to wait a few more days and get induced at the end of week 41 or at the beginning of week 42! But our hospital policy was one week after EDD.

Yep. But I see a Perinatologist so most women have to be induced early for high risk factors (High BP, GD, multiple births, etc.).
Even if you don't have a medical complication that requires early induction, she will still schedule at 39 weeks if mom is dilated to a 3. She does not like to induce if mom is not dilated enough.

I'm under the care of a midwife (I'm in NZ) and my midwife won't induce or take any action until 42 weeks unless there is a medical necessity to do so.

Yes, My NP already told me they won't let me go to 41 weeks. At my 40 weeks appt, they will schedule me for an NST at the hospital and schedule one based on the results of the NST.
Crazy, huh?
I mean, maybe if I specially request it, they'd let me go past 41 weeks, but at this point, I really don't want to.

Yes, but I think for her she would want to see that you or the baby are experiencing some level of discomfort. I don't know how I will feel in 10 weeks, but I suspect I will be ready to be done as soon as I hit the 40 week mark!

@sarbear: Same with me. My doc said 39 weeks (which is today for me). I have my next appointment on Thursday, but am going to call and see if I can get the induction scheduled for Friday or Saturday so I'm "on the books" if I decide to go ahead with it after getting an update on my progress.

Yep, my doc wanted to start talking about induction at 38 weeks but I deferred until absolutely necessary (when she settled onto my sciatic nerve at 39 weeks); ended up being induced the day before my due date.

@Goldilocks1107: Ya that's why I moved my appointment from thursday to tuesday, that way he can induce me on my due date (if possible) rather than wait another week.
My doc isn't on watch during the weekends (he has 1 out of 6 weekends) and I would prefer to have him there (unless I go into natural labour this weekend)

@regberadaisy: Well I know at 37 weeks my doc saw I was "uncomfortable, horrible back pains and tired from the insomnia" so he offered to strip my membranes.
For my first pregnancy, it was done 1.5 weeks later.
I don't want to be one of those mothers who wants an induction just because she's fed up. Sure there are no medical reasons, but my back hurts so much I almost cry at night. Is that medical enough?

@blushink: haha if you remember my doc actually ended up offering me an earlier induction than my previously scheduled 41 weeks to 40 weeks. I think because they felt I was far enough along (dilating and effacement along with the cramping) to justify the earlier induction. I was actually really surprised they offer it because she sounded pretty set on no induction until 41 weeks at previous appointments.

I was LGA (Large for Gestational Age) and they actually offered me a c-section. I didn't want that, so we compromised and induced at 39.5 weeks. Not really early but my OB was on vacation before and after that and I really wanted him to deliver if possible.

Who knows, since my last apt, maybe I went from a 2.5 to a 6! That would be really sweet! I know I lost all my mucous plug. Not that it really means anything, but clearly somethings going on

@Goldilocks1107: my doctor was going to schedule mine for April 30th, which would have brought me just over 40 weeks, but I decided to wait it out. I wish I would have scheduled it because when we did schedule my induction, they were booked on the 30th...had to wait for May 2nd. So it's probably good if you schedule it now

No. They don't do inductions until 10 days over unless medically necessary (and they go by the latest due date calculator I've seen.) Which is how I'd prefer it.

I'm not sure. I assumed we would have a preemie and/or that I would go into labor on my own since I've been dilated and effaced since 30.5 weeks. My OB did say that she could do a successful induction on me now since I'm a "loose" 2 cm dilated and 80% effaced (or, was last week at my 37 wk appt).
Tomorrow, I'm going to ask about it. My OB is on call Wednesday nights at the hospital. I would consider asking for an induction 40w, 3 days since that is the Wednesday night she is on call and frankly don't think I'd want to go until 41w, 3 days, but not sure. Also I'm sure I could be induced by another doctor, but would prefer my own.

My OB is the only one in his practice, and will be out of town for Thanksgiving. I am due the following day. We're going to see where I'm at during the beginning of that week, and if I seem to be progressing, he is going to induce me before he goes out of town. So I'll be in the middle of my 39th week if that happens.

@blushink: Sorry, latest as in their due date for me is 1- 3 days later than anything I've found online (Nov. 29/30th, according to O date, Dec. 1 according to most LMP calculators, and Dec. 2 according to their calculator.) Should've said calculation.
