For the soft carrier I have a lillebaby, which I highly recommend for a hot climate. It doesn't require an insert and is made of breathable mesh material so it doesn't get as hot. I also have an ergo and much prefer the lillebaby when it's hot out. I have a wrap as well but rarely use it because it takes so much longer.

We have a Beco Gemini and we also had a moby style wrap. I had planned the same thing, wrap for me and ssc for DH and I I share. I found DS hated the wrap and it was more one intensive to get on. We have used the ssc exclusively right from the beginning and share it. I don't find it much trouble to adjust the straps from when DH uses it. And it's been great as DS has gotten bigger. In our house, we only used the ssc, so I would say you would likely be fine with just that, but everyone and very baby has different preferences.

I had a boba wrap and a lillebaby ssc and used both, a lot. The wrap I pretty much used exclusively for the first 8ish weeks (DS seemed much more secure and cozy in it when he was tiny), then I started switching to the Lillebaby, which I'm still using now at 15m.

I think it's possible to get away with just a ssc, but the wrap is definitely nice to have to do things around the house, as it is much more flexible and easier to move in when the baby is itty bitty.

We got a k'tan and an ergo 360. My lo is almost 4 weeks old and hated the wrap so we returned it have just been using the ergo. We didn't buy the infant insert and just use a rolled up blanket. He does get warm in there, especially when my husband is carrying him. They both run hot apparently. DH and I are very similarly built and just have minor strap adjustments when we switch who's carrying DS, so that doesn't bother us at all. All that to say-you can def get away with just the ssc

I bought a solly wrap and the Boba 4g. We ended up with the Ergo 360 because she hated the Boba and preferred facing out. I hardly used the wrap because she never really liked that either when she was tiny. If I could do it over, I would've waited on both because by the time she was here I couldn't return or exchange anything since it was over 90 days since purchased. I had to sell my Boba so I could get the 360!

If you really want to get them just make sure you keep all the original packaging in case they don't work out and it will help you sell them more easily if returning them isn't possible.

I think both a stretchy wrap and an SSC can be handy. The biggest thing I learned about baby wearing is that everyone has different things they like, and you won't know until you're actually using them. And different situations and baby size/age can mean you like a different carrier more at any given time.

The great thing about a stretchy wrap is that they're great for newborns, and they can be pre-tied. So you could put the wrap on, drive somewhere, and then pop baby in the wrap. SSC's on the other hand, are great for ease of use. Once you've done it a couple times it's so easy to just secure the clips and go.

Personally, I found SSC's to be easy to put on (once the insert is no longer needed), but not comfy for long term wearing. I also wish I'd gotten a Tula instead of the Beco Soleil because maybe it would be more comfortable, and it definitely would have better resale. My favorite carrier was a wrap conversion Mei Tai. That thing is amazingly awesome - less tying and complication but no buckles or sagging.

Wrap is def great for newborn days as it's just easier than SSC even with the infant insert. I have both and I used it exactly as I described - wrap for newborn days, then SSC from like 4-5 mo on.

ETA: You may want to look into a brand called Connecta; they make carriers in a solar weave material which is basically like men's swim trunks material so it's very cooling and can even go into the water.

I have an Ergo, a Solly wrap (although with LO 1 I had a K'tan), and a woven wrap. I will agree with @shootingstar: and say that each has it's benefits/situations where I would choose one over the other. In the early days, I prefered the stretchier wraps (solly, K'tan). They were pre-tied, less bulky.
I also wish I had a Tula instead of the Ergo...I think it might be more comfortable, but I never tried one. Maybe for #3!

The Boba wrap is a pretty dense fabric and will be pretty warm if you're concerned about heat. Stretchy wraps are great in the early days, but I would recommend a Solly wrap over a Boba wrap or a Moby 100 times over. OR Wrapsody has "hybrid" stretch wraps which are soft like a stretchy and great with newborns but will last you MUCH longer in terms of support!

I particularly didn't like the Moby. I felt like I could wear it around the house but not sure if I would do it outside. I do feel a bit more support with a Tekhni woven. DH does have a Ergo and I have a Beco Soleil that was purchased pre-baby. A tula needs an infant insert for babies under 15 pounds... so I didn't get one of those before the babies came. The beco soleil does need an infant insert which works for me, but it is a bit bulky with the insert. The beco gemini does not require an infant insert. I am petite and hear becos are good for smaller frames... Though, I'm short so looking over the carrier is tough. I've tried the ones I've mentioned here but I really like my Fly tai (or a regular mai tai). Oh, I've also tried a ring sling but don't feel completely comfortable with it yet.

So overall, I like my fly tai and got a ergo for my DH. If I don't feel like dealing with the long ties of my fly tai, I think a beco gemini would work. Then when they get older, I could sell them and get different carriers. That's the one good thing about baby carriers... Tula, beco, some other SSCs, ring slings and woven wraps can be resold for about 80-90% of their value. So you aren't really wasting money because you can resell it.
