necessity or just a fun add-on to list of nb gear/accessories?
are there other paci holders like it that are comparable?

My LO never took a paci, but I have friends that swear by these! Especially in the beginning because you can just wrap it up in the swaddle so it doesn't fall out of their mouths as easily.

People I know just love these. They're easy to find when they fall out. I did hear that about 4 months, they start pulling them out on their own, though. That being said, M pulls hers out and she doesn't have the stuffed animal to pull on!

If your baby likes soothies pacis, a Wubanub is a must! Once LO can sort of grasp, they can put back in their paci themselves!
