Let's say you bought something off of Amazon and it was supposed to be a gift. You don't need the item anymore as something else was purchased for that child. The gift isn't something you normally would have purchased for your child. The gift was $30. It will cost $6 to ship it back (what happened to free return shipping!??!)

Either keep it or give it to another kid.
Or donate to toys for tots or other toy drives.
Or keep it and sell it on ebay for $5 less than you paid for it, so that you still don't eat all of the $6 lol.

Can you give it as a gift to someone else?It would tick me off to pay $ to return the item so it at all possible I would keep it and save it to give to someone else

I'd keep it and then either give it to another kid if an opportunity presents itself, or save it until me own child will appreciate it. Whichever comes first.

This happened to me. I am going to return the item because I don't know who else would use it (ear buds). Harumph

Donate it! There are tons of non-profits that serve homeless or foster children and they are always doing drives around now.

I'm lazy and returning sounds like a hassle. So I'd keep, re-gift or donate.

@blackbird: oh yeah. I've got something from last Christmas that was never need that has been sitting on my shelf for a year now. It was something I couldn't exchange.
Too expensive to give away, very specialized gift that I can't just give to anyone. BAH
