Next week we are travelling by car (3hrs) and spending a long weekend (Fri-Sun) at MIL's place. S will be 7.5wks old. It will be the first time she's spent a night, or much longer than half a day away from home. She's in a pretty good routine at the moment with naps and night time sleep and we EBF on demand- so if we go out I try and plan it around feeds or make sure there will be somewhere I can feed.
I'm a little nervous, because it's not like we're staying in a hotel and can do our own thing. A lot of the time we will be visiting with Dh's family in the area and MIL has suggested we still go out to eat in the evening like we used to pre-baby. Although we have a usually easy going little lady, if she can't settle for a nap she gets cranky very quickly. Most of our naps are in her room when we're at home, but she does sleep well in the car seat, pram or ergo if we're out and about. There have been a couple of times when I've taken her to my parents house and because of being passed around/having nowhere to settle for a nap (she doesn't really nap on me anymore) she fights sleep, gets overtired and I end up having to take her home.
So my worry is... should we just go with the flow of not having a "routine" for a couple days, or should I try and be somewhat cautious of making sure bedtime is the usual time and try to manage naps? WWYD?
