Has anyone tried these? Do they work?
Saw them on Babysteals and was curious!

@Andrea: I had to go look too. Apparently they are nuts off of a soapwood tree that are cracked open. The Lining in the shells makes a natural soap when mixed with water. You put them in a mesh bag and use them instead of laundry detergent, and they create a low suds naural detergent for washing. I kind of want to try them after reading about them but Im curious if they work,

They're supposed to be fantastic if you cloth diaper and have bouts of diaper rash. I've never tried them, I find them too expensive!

@LivsMama: how interesting thanks! not sure if i want to do it if @looch says they are expensive, though.

@Andrea: I'd do it if I could find some locally to try...they're expensive for me because I have to have them sent over from the UK.
One site had 5 nuts for about $10 on sale, that's only 5 loads of laundry...I can buy 3 liters of detergent for that price, you know?

@Andrea: Im that person that would have to do a cost analysis. At first glance they appear to be cheaper if you buy higher quantities. For 14.99 you get 8 oz of nuts to yield 80 loads. We use Dreft. A 100oz bottle of Dreft is $23, which should yield about 64 loads. So in that comparison, its cheaper. But like @Looch said, if you only buy 5, its more expensive. Either way, we dont have any skin irritation issues right now (knock wood) so I dont think Im gonna mess with something thats not broken

@LivsMama: @Andrea: wouldn't it be great to buy one big bag among a group and split them?

@LivsMama: i was just analyzing it as well! this one says 800+ loads for $55 + $8 shipping!

my LO has eczema so i hate to switch products, too!
@looch: they don't sell it in bulk around you?
wonderful pear / 26210 posts
@Andrea: nope. I'd have to pay VAT for a large order, and that counteracts all the cost savings! Sucks!
