first I love sweet home alabama! Second how do you feel about babies in bars or in that type of setting? We've left LO twice since she was born, the first time was to go to a birthday party and second was to go to my brothers engagement party. Both of these parties were beer drinking, loud music and dancing kind of parties and it really bothered me that all I heard was, "where's the baby?" or "why isn't the baby with you?" I wanted to say well because.. SHES A BABY! She doesn't do well in big crowds, she would hate the loud music and this is a bar setting she doesn't belong here! Has anyone else been through this before? I'm thinking it's happening to me because I'm from a small little rural town, where some people don't think twice about letting their little one hang out or run around at these parties.

Yeah. Not a good idea to have a baby in a loud, crowded.. bar.

Well I never go to bars so I don't have that issue. But if I had to go due to a party, LO would not be with me.

I would never take my baby to a bar... Then again I don't go to bars and don't plan on it but still, a bar is no place for kids.

one of my all time favorite movies!! I would take a baby in a bucket (infant car seat) to somewhere that HAS a bar, like Chili's or TGI Friday's, but not to an actual bar with dancing and all that. haha.

@lovelife: oh and whenever people ask me that question "where's the baby?" I have to be like ".... it's 10pm, HE'S SLEEPING!" honestly I think non-parents just don't know (they think once you have a baby, it's velcroed to you all the time) and they'd look at you even more weirdly if you DID have the baby with you! They just want to ask about the baby. Haha.

I'm glad you feel this way because I went to a sports bar this fall and was actually yelled at by parents of a 6 year old boy who chose to have dinner amongst about 200 screaming drunk college football fans. I don't judge so I didn't blink when they were seated next to us, but a sports bar is where I go with my friends to drink and yell explatives at the screen, so I just assumed they were okay with their son being in that atmosphere (some parents are!). I was a little taken aback when they asked us to tone it down for their sons sake. We weren't even that bad! But I mean do we now have to make every venue child friendly? So now we can't even go to a bar and unwind with friends? It's kind of a fine line and like I said, I don't judge if parents are cool with their kids being at a bar, but that doesn't mean they can alter the atmosphere to their liking.

For me, it depends on the type of bar and the time. I'd totally take LO to a laid back, outdoor beer garden on a Saturday afternoon but not a club with loud music at night.

i'm guessing they don't expect the baby to actually be there? that maybe they're just asking where's the baby? except for the clueless people who asked why the baby isn't with you. lol.

I had to laugh at this because I actually brought LO to a bar this weekend for DH's birthday. I felt really awkward, but it's a family restaurant that turns into a bar after 9pm. There were plenty of other kids there, so that made me feel a little better. We got there at 7, had dinner with our families and sent LO home with my inlaws before 9, while we hung our with friends for a few hours.

my parents own a bar and grill. and I am totally fine with her there, or if we are having dinner some where. thats more of a restaurant that turns into a bar as it gets later. I'm just more against taking babies to parties that are clearly drinking and dancing.

I wouldn't. If it's late she should be in bed. I went on a wine tour the other week and a friend asked where the baby was. Really would you bring a baby on a group wine tour. Lol

I wouldn't take her to an actual bar or anywhere where there's lots of drunken buffoonery, like a sports bar/restaurant probably would be too much noise and rowdiness but I've taken her to bigger get togethers and BIL engagement party where I got to dance with her. We take her out to restaurants regularly. Also taken her to a winery during the day.

I was never into the bar scene but if I were I wouldn't bring my baby there! It just doesn't seem right.

We'll go to breweries often for dinner, but we never last super long being out. The places are usually fairly loud, but he falls asleep regardless. We don't ever go when there are large crowds or dancing since we just aren't into that stuff anymore.

Yeah, I'd go with "Um, because its 10 PM and we're in a bar. And the baby is a BABY!"

We took our LO to an izakaya (Japanese style bar) last week but our group had our own room. Plus, it's not just a drinking place, they serve food as well. If it was a regular bar, I wouldn't have taken her.

I'd bring a newborn just about anywhere, as long as the noise level wasn't too high. They can sleep in the infant seat, so I wouldn't worry about bedtime, and they're not running around anywhere. Plus my LO was a super easy kid, and wasn't the least bit disruptive when we took him out (he'd either sleep or just watch stuff around him), so we weren't infringing on other people's ability to enjoy the atmosphere.
Now I couldn't do that- he has a bedtime, can't just sleep anywhere, and is too active. And verbal. -
Nope, not ok!
If we're going to go to a bar then it's to let loose and have a good time. A bar is no place for babies, I don't trust drunks enough either
