Being asked if you're pregnant when you're not, but want so desperately to be.

I've gained probably 10 pounds in the past 6 months and I have gotten this question twice at work lately (most recently about 10 minutes ago). Both times were extremely awkward because I am usually on the petite side, so I guess they automatically assume that my extra weight MUST be a baby????

I find this question hurtful for so many reasons, beyond the physical implications. I wish I could respond, "Yes! We are!" but instead it reminds me that a baby is not happening for us right now and instead of a beautiful, living thing inside me, I'm left with a ice-cream-and-cookie-jigalo-belly.

I go from sadness to anger when people ask me this. No one judges my husband if he gains a few extra pounds. No one feels that they can ask questions about HIS body. But my body, especially because I'm a newlywed, is fair game.

Sigh.
