Yes, I'd change...my son gets a rash when he stays in a poop diaper too long.

if it were close to normal wakeup time I'd probably leave it! eek! thats the toughest parental decision (haha!)

I've changed her at night when she's pooped and she barely woke up and went right back to sleep after the change.

It has never happened but I think I would change her. It would not be worth getting a diaper rash.

I would change him. I couldn't sleep knowing he had a poopy diaper. He will usually sleep through a diaper change if it's the middle of his night.

Hah. I started a thread like this a few weeks ago, but it was at naptime... It depends on what part of the night. Will she wake up soon, nurse and fall asleep? Then yes, change her.
Is she in deep sleep with a chance of sleeping through the changing? Change her. (Also if she is prone to rash, but you would have mentioned that).
Otherwise... no.
Remember when she was a newborn and EVERY diaper was a poopy diaper and you didn't even know if she pooped just now or not? And you just changed the baby on a schedule? She survived that.

With my state of mind today...leave her! And there's been SO many times we were convinced it was poop but it was just a really smelly fart!

I may be in the minority but I say leave her! If you were both sleeping and she pooped, you would never know and you wouldn't change her!

I unwittingly did this not long ago, and it led to our first case of diaper rash

I almost always left him, until he was older and got prone to diaper rashes. Then we changes him at midnight every night and he almost always had a poop at that time. He always went right back to sleep.

Once my sister and her DH came to stay with me in NYC and they went out to dinner with friends while I babysat their daughter who was like 9 months old at the time. The second they left, she immediatley did a huge smelly poop in her diaper and I had no idea what to do! It was before texting so I didn't want to call my sister just to ask her so I went for it - I changed the diaper (my first time!) and she didn't even wake up.
