Oooh! Fun! I love organizing so I will ponder this for you! In the mean time purge like it's your job!

Walk around with a trash bag for trash and a box or bag for donations. When I am on a thinning out binge I pick a number and I try to get rid of that number of things each morning and each evening. Also, since you will be packing soon try really hard to make sure items are where they belong. Like if your tennis stuff is hanging out in the front entry closet instead of the mud room move it.

i think after purging all the obvious stuff while unpacking, you cam do the 4 box method, once you're unpacked- go through every room and of EVERYTHING in the room, ask yourself: keep, move (does it belong in this room?), trash, donate? that will help you see what you don't have room for (everything in your house should have a purpose, and thus should have a HOME, not a dusty, overlooked corner of a closet) and can help you be more ruthless. good luck!

I would try to create a staging area outside or in the living room, and go through every box with ruthlessness. Nothing gets in the house unless you love it or need it. Once it's in, it's much harder to get it out. Things become invisible.

For crafts I find that if it is on shelfs in bins its much easier to access and keep neat then if its in drawers. For yarn, I assume you would need some type of containsr to put them in. I know a lot of people like baskets, but often containers with lids are better for me, so I can still set small stuff on top if needed or stack containers.

For smaller crafts, these little three drawer plastic organizers are nice. Keep all your pencils, scissors, etc in there.
