My DD is 14 weeks and we have suspected for awhile that she has some degree of reflux. The doctor gave us a script for 1ml twice a day of Zantac. I just wanted to get other parents experience with it? The doctor did not see irritation in her esophagus but we have been noticing lots of fussiness around eating, spitting up and choking it down, hiccups and back arching while eating and being carried. First time parents so don't know what's typical and atypical. Thank you bees

Oh, I'd love to hear about this too. My LO is 2 weeks old and spitting up like crazy. Hiccups too. I keep her upright for a 1/2 hour after eating and it doesn't seem to help at all. Even an hour after she eats, she'll spit up when I lay her down for changing & naps or when I just reposition her in my arms. It comes out both her nose and mouth and she just looks so miserable when it happens.
It doesn't help that my milk is out of control and she's taking in more than she needs. I've tried pumping before feeding, manually expressing, and keeping her on the same side for a few feedings in a row. It maybe helps a bit, but even with bottles where we can control how much she gets, we still have major spit up issues.
The ped said that all babies have some degree of reflux and didn't seem to concerned. But it's becoming exhausting for me because she wants to eat constantly (I don't know if it makes her feel better) and by the time I go through the whole process, I've got only a 1/2 hour or so before we start it all over again. In fact, I just had a mini-breakdown this afternoon about this.
Does this sound at all like how your LO was in the first couple weeks?
I just had her in last week at the ped and am so tempted to take her back, but I don't want to be THAT mom that's always in for every little thing.

My LO was super fussy and was eventually diagnosed with reflux. The clincher was when she started pulling away and screaming after only nursing for a minute or two. The doctor recommended we try Mylanta (I think?) first and when that didn't work, we tried Zantac.
I was really apprehensive about medicating my baby when she was only a month or so old, but listening to her scream when she tried to eat was too painful! It took a day or two but it made a huge difference. She was able to eat, was less fussy, and just seemed happier.
She was only on it for a month or so. I started to occasionally forget to give it to her (great parenting, I know) and eventually we just tapered it off. Most babies outgrow it by 3 or 4 months.

We had her on zantac for a while. It seemed to help her discomfort. I weaned her off of it when it seemed like she didn't need it anymore.

@SLR: we didn't start to have feeding issues until maybe 4 to 6 weeks? I had developed an oversupply as we'll as had an over active letdown so she would just cry and cry through every feeding and I would feel so terrible like I was torturing her.
@plaidpants: That is the fussiness my DD went through! I thought maybe it was my letdown and supply but maybe it was her reflux too? It has gotten a lot better and she doesn't scream and scream anymore but she still has her bad days. She is three months now so maybe she's outgrowing it all
