I've never been zip lining, but I remember reading an article about that one college girl that got that flesh eating disease from a cut she got while ziplining. I think that's how it went...

Nope! I wouldn't go ziplining in an exotic country though.. some girl in GA got hurt while ziplining and got infected with flesh eating bacteria!!!!!
I went once in Northern GA right after I found out I was pregnant. It was fun, but probably won't do it again.

I went in the smokey mountains in TN. I loved it and felt very safe the whole time (other than the half a second when I stepped off the first platform and didn't know what to expect).

I went ziplining in Costa Rica and it was a ton of fun. BUT we noticed half way through the series of lines that the operators weren't tightening the caribeeners (the piece that holds your harness to the rope that attaches to the line -- it's supposed to be screwed tight. They need to unscrew and remove them and then refasten them each time you switch to a new line). My DH, who is a climber and uses a lot of the same equipment, said something to them and then they started doing it properly!

@Mrs. Bee: @Jumpingjacks: Yay for ziplining in Costa Rica. We went on our honeymoon there. I'm seriously afraid of heights, but my tour group convinced me to do it since I was the only one who didn't want to go. There were lots of tears but I'm glad I did it.
No one got hurt! But @Jumpingjacks: that is scary about what your husband discovered.

I went when I was in Cancun and had a great time. The company was Salvatica and was highly rated on trip advisor.com

I've never gone, except on a high ropes course in 8th grade, it was a blast! I'd love to go somewhere tropical!

I went in Costa Rica as well, no problems! And I've done a lot of high ropes type events in the states, also no problems. You will have to sign a release form though, no matter where you do it

The first time I went was in Jamaica with some friends and it was exhilarating! There were several long lines where you could do whatever position you liked, but the 90 feet vertical drops were the best!! I've gone a couple more times after that and no issues. Hubby got a slight rope burn on his fingers from braking but it was because the glove they gave him had a hole in it.

We went in Jamaica with no issues. it was fun, but I don't know if I would do it again, I would rather try something else on another trip!

Like @mrsbird I went zip lining in Honduras. It was so fun. We went through the jungle and could see the ocean in the distance. I never felt unsafe.

I went in Costa Rica and I didn't think twice about it. I think it's actually quite safe IMHO.
