Anatomy scan went well, according to the tech! Midwife will confirm tomorrow but these are techs that specialize in high risk so I trust her. Had a panic attack when she got to the head, but I can finally relax a little! Now to focus on keeping this little guy (confirmed he's is very much a boy! 😆) inside for another 21 weeks.

Also, when I'm stressed I bake so I made a cake yesterday and I'm proud of it so y'all get pictures of that too. 😬😆

@Torchwood: yay for a great scan. And that is a gorgeous cake!

    @Mrs. Pickle: Thank you!

It's really frustrating how it seems like the second I can stop worrying about one thing, I come up with another. JUST got past the anatomy scan, and already last night I dreamed he came super premature. 🙄 But I start the progesterone shots very soon (midwife today was confused I hadn't started already), so at least I can DO something about that fear. It always makes it easier when I can do something proactive, not just sit around worrying.

Also, better picture of the cake because I can't resist sharing.

Had my appt today. It was super rainy and stormy, so of course, my OB got stuck at the hospital waiting to deliver two babies, but there wasn't much to talk about right now anyway. The nurse found the heartbeat, which helped me feel better since I've been a little worried after being so sick and on so many meds the last month. They were a little concerned that I'd lost 8 lbs but I told them I'd just been sick and they said as long as I hadn't been dieting or anything that they were okay with it and would expect an increase when I go back in three weeks for my anatomy scan and next appointment, which is April 11.

How's everyone doing? I feel like since we're in the middle of the second trimester, it's a little slower with fewer updates around here. I guess that's the perk of being past the most risky time and most people feeling better now.

We still haven't agreed on any names. The twins still insist she should be Caroline and that has grown on us, especially considering that DH loves the nickname Callie. We're still not sure who this kiddo will be!

I packed up a bunch of little boy clothes and gave it all away to some friends with younger boys in an attempt to clear out some space in our attic and garage. Another couple of friends gave us some girl hand-me-downs, so I didn't really free up any space but at least we have a few things for her to wear. I think girl stuff is so interesting. One friend gave us a tub of clothes and there were so many cute things, but a lot of it seemed really impractical for a tiny baby. We almost always had the boys in sleepers or the little baby gowns when they were under 3 months. I know we had some onsies and soft pants they wore a few times when we were going somewhere, but they definitely weren't wearing the boy equivalent of a cute little dress. Another friend sent some sleepers and gowns, though, so at least I know I can default back to comfy, easy clothes.

For those of you that have had a summer baby before, what did you dress them in the first couple months? It will be really hot outside in Texas, but everyone will have the a/c cranked up so I'm not sure that we would really need to dress her in summery clothes. I guess after winter and early spring babies, my instinct is to keep newborns in warm, snuggly stuff.

@Mrs. Blue: DD was born in October, but it's Texas so you know how hot it is then. At home she wore a lot on onesies (sometimes with socks), or Carter's romper. She has some Baby Gap outfits and some heirloom pieces she wore when we went out. I liked things that were soft cotton that looked like dresses but still snapped underneath like a onesie. I'll do some browsing and come back with some links for you.

Also my LO has run hot since day one so we had her in summery clothes even with the AC on. We just took a receiving blanket everywhere in case she got cool.

    blogger / pomelo / 5361 posts

@Mrs. Pickle: Good idea with keeping a light blanket close by. These hot weather babies are new to me! And I'd love the links if you have time to find some ideas for me.

@Mrs. Blue: it takes me a good 15 minutes to get productive at work. Don't tell my boss. DD had things like this.

  11. Mrs. Blue

    blogger / pomelo / 5361 posts

@Mrs. Pickle: Perfect! Makes sense. In the summer with the boys, we wore a lot of the one-piece short things, so I feel like what you posted is in line with that. I'm all about the convenience of one piece!

Oh, as far as updates I had an OB appointment yesterday and the nurse took so long to find the baby's heartbeat that I started praying while I was lying there. It was scary. Turns out she just wasn't searching low enough. I was checked because of all the pelvic pressure I'm having and everything is normal. I just hurt more because it's my second baby. Awesome. I don't remember having any pelvic pressure the first time until I was pushing her out!

Doing OK over here! I plan to go to the chiropractor soon. Baby is kicking more, so that's making me feel better too. We discussed names last night with MIL and BIL, totally joking around and going through the 2015 SSA top 1000 boy names (2016 list for boys and girls published in May!) and we had a few good laughs. We are leaning towards one of our 2 names, but we didn't disclose that or even what the names we like are. It's our secret! At least they weren't picked out and laughed at by MIL and BIL!

@Mrs. Blue: DD1 was also an August baby (in Georgia) and we dressed her mainly in long-sleeve onesies and socks in the beginning, but she didn't spend much time outside the first few weeks. If we were outside, we had a few sleeveless rompers from Carters and ultimately she wore a few knit dresses and rompers like @Mrs. Pickle: posted.

And Burts Bees Baby makes some really soft onesie-dresses that were my favorite thing to dress her in around 3 months: https://www.amazon.com/Burts-Bees-Baby-Essentials-Shoulder/dp/B00MGSOD5W/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1490888544&sr=8-4&keywords=burts+bees+baby+dress

Scan on Tuesday, found out that we're having a girl! Can't believe we'll actually have one of each (I thought I would be a boy mom for life for some reason). They did tell us that she has a two-vessel cord only, and it's supposed to be three. So now I have to see a MFM specialist and get regular growth scans. The midwife was encouraging that it is usually nothing to worry about. Still, trying to avoid too much Googling about what could go wrong. Otherwise, all well but VERY sick of New England winter at this point and ready for some warmth! Texans, please send some

@coddergirl: Welcome to the growth scan club and congrats on your girl! I feel like I'm constantly having appointments (OB or MFM) but it is nice to get a reassuring peek once a month.

Baby has been kicking SUPER low up until this week. Last night I realized she must have moved up a bit (DD1 was transverse for quite a while so I wouldn't be surprised if DD2 is too) and I could finally visually see her kicks on my belly - they were surprisingly strong for only 20 weeks! This is my favorite part of pregnancy

@coddergirl: Congrats! I hope everything with the cord turns out to be a non-issue for you. It's hard not to worry when anything is not just like it "should" be, but hopefukky it will just mean some extra scans and getting to see your little miss more often with great results each time!

Our part of Texas has been cold and rainy the last week, but we had two days in the 90s the week before and it was glorious!

I'm getting soooo anxious for our anatomy scan!! I can't wait to find out if we are having a boy or a girl! I thought this whole time so far that it's a boy, but now in the last few days, I switched, and now I totally think we are having a 2nd girl! I will be so excited either way, I honestly have no preference!

@Mrs. Blue: I had our girl in June in the North east and we used mostly onsies and rompers for her, and kept a muslin blanket around if it was chilly. Totally agree on impractical girl clothes! We were given so many cute outfits that we never used just because of all the buttons and multiple pieces that made no sense for a small baby.

I'm 19 weeks tomorrow, can't believe it! Excited for our anatomy scan. I'm fully "out" about the pregnancy but we haven't posted on social media, so I think we will after the anatomy scan.

@coddergirl: congrats on one of each! I hope everything is ok with the cord as you progress.

On Tuesday is our scan and I'm so excited to see the baby!! It's sitting super low- like any movement/kicking is between my hip bones. It's so crazy!

Other than that, nothing is going on. I've had a cold all week so I feel kinda miserable.

For clothing, our first was born in the beginning of September, but it was still semi-warm for a little while. He mostly wore short sleeve onesies and shorts or pants. We would bring a light blanket. I'm assuming that's what we'll do this time.

@coddergirl: Congrats at your scan ... my friend had the 2 vessel cord issue, and she now has a healthy, chubby little 8 month old!! I'm sure it'll be reassuring to get good news from MFM.

@MrsBrewer: You and me both! At first I really wanted another girl, but I'm realizing it'll be ok either way. I just have zero boy names.

Still no movement at 18 weeks. I'll be very interested to see if its an anterior placenta at our scan next week. I'm also finally wearing a maternity tank top today! I'm gaining weight quickly, probably time to ditch the scale and maybe these giant Costco muffins. Yum.

@sojellybean: Don't feel bad, I'll be 20 weeks on Saturday, and I still don't feel much movement. I feel like I was feeling a lot more when I was pregnant with my first. It's making me nervous. But......my belly is definitely growing, so I'm not as concerned!

  27. Torchwood

Had my first progesterone shot! It wasn't near as bad as I built it up to be. Stings now, but I couldn't feel anything at the time. And I'll take that anytime. I don't mind being sore, but I hate that feeling of standing still and letting someone hurt me. I'm apparently going in to have them every week, not doing them at home. It's a little bit of a pain, but there are escalators there which DD LOVES, so we'll just make that where we go on Mondays to play. And 20 weeks today! Halfway!

My anatomy scan was this morning. Baby girl is healthy! I have partial placenta previa though. I have a follow up in 6 weeks to see if my placenta has moved. I'm on pelvic rest and I'm not allowed to lift my toddler. That's going to be hard. She's not quite 18 months old and loves to be held. We are transitioning her to a toddler bed tonight because I'm solo in the evenings very often and won't be able to get her in and out of her crib. Also she just learned how to climb out of her crib and doesn't do it safely so we would have had to transition her sooner rather than later.

@Mrs. Pickle: I'm sorry! I can't imagine not being able to pick up my kid, and she's at least a little older. Hope it moves for you right away!

Is it just super terrible that I'm secretly hoping that at my appointment with MFM next week they'll tell me I can't have sex? I'm just SO not into it right and DH just doesn't understand that it's nothing to do with him. He feels rejected. If I had a doctor's order he wouldn't take that personally. And sex IS a valid method of attempting to start labor, so presumably it's risky when trying to avoid it.

  33. MrsBrewer

    coconut / 8854 posts

@Mrs. Pickle: ❤ I had that with my first pregnancy, and at my next check up it moved! I can only imagine how hard it's going to be not lifting your toddler though. I hope your placenta moved before your next check!

@Torchwood: I'm right there with you in not wanting sex at all. It's really bad this time, and I don't even want to be touched!

  34. Mrs. Blue

    blogger / pomelo / 5361 posts

@Mrs. Pickle: I was borderline placenta previa with my last one at our anatomy scan, but it moved by the next time they checked. I hope yours does the same. I didn't have any kind of restrictions, though, so yours must be a little further than mine was. I'm sure it will be incredibly challenging to not pick up LO, but do be careful! I have a good friend who ended up on hospital bedrest with placenta previa (her's was full, though) so I know it can be serious if it moves the other way as the pregnancy progresses. It may be kind of nice to just be able to lay down next to LO when you're putting her to bed. Lifting a baby in and out of a crib when you're at the end is miserable!

  35. Mrs. Microscope

    pear / 1788 posts

@Torchwood: same here on no sex drive at all! We haven't did since December before morning sickness kicked in. DH understands, so that's nice, but I feel bad. Maybe it's from the boy hormones? second pregnancy hormones? (or more, for you)

  36. Mrs. Pickle

    blogger / wonderful cherry / 21628 posts

    @Torchwood: thanks!

@MrsBrewer: that's good to hear! Mr MFM said if it's partial it moves 90% of the time so I'm hopeful that it will.

@Mrs. Blue: she did pretty well her first night in her bed. She did sleep on the floor half the night. She woke up at 1:30 so I went and laid with her for a few minutes. It was nice to be able to snuggle with her. DH had yesterday and off and today as well so we are working out systems so that I don't have to lift DD when I'm solo parenting. I definitely don't want to end up on bedrest or do anything to hurt baby #2.

Does anyone have any idea of how low they are carrying? When the dr was looking at my cervix we could see the babies head right up against it. I knew she was low but I didn't expect her to be as low as she could get!

  37. MrsBrewer

    coconut / 8854 posts

Had my anatomy scan today! Baby looks great, and is a BOY I'm sooo excited and shocked! He is 15oz and measuring in the 92%. My bellynis measuring at 22 weeks. But everything looks great and no concerns. I'm not feeling much movement because I have an anterior placenta, so that explains a lot!!

  38. Torchwood

    pomelo / 5607 posts

I'm so glad I'm not the only one with no sex drive. My app was all "your libido should be high so that's a fun way to get exercise," and I'm just thinking ha ha ha ha no. Thankfully DH didn't see that!

@Mrs. Pickle: I didn't get a good look at exactly how low little guy is, but he's been kicking (probably punching since he was head down) the crap out of my cervix so I'd say he's right there.

@MrsBrewer: Yay for another boy! There are a lot of us now!

Y'all, I'm so excited! My mom and I went to the Southern Women's Show Sunday, and I got a call that night saying I won the drawing from the Soothe massage app (kind of like uber for massages) people. I was thinking a free massage, but they dropped off a package today with two bathrobes, two candles, and two gift cards for free ($100 each) massages! What better surprise for a pregnant lady?! And hey, as a bonus there's boxes and bubble wrap for LO. She's pretty bummed because the carousel at the mall was gone today (said closed for maintenance but it was straight gone) when we went today. She was really excited to go. 😞 So I'm glad there was something to cheer us both up. And we have zoo tots tomorrow and there's a carousel at the zoo, so it'll work out. But yay massages!

    Jealous of your massage!

Has anyone been dealing with a bit of non commital to buying anything? I know we don't need a ton with another boy on the way but I'm strongly holding out on buying anything and I'm not sure if it is still a lingering disconnect to this little guy or what.. waiting for some of that nesting drive I guess ....
Also I'm pretty sure we came up with a name and of course both our mothers made a sour milk face to the name but danggit I like it!.

    @Torchwood: that's amazing!

@sunset840: my mom keeps asking me for a list of things I need for baby but I'm dragging my feet. I just don't feel like researching anything this time. Bleh.
