@motherunner: Meet with genetics for NIPT on 5/10, then see my OB on 5/16 (I'll be 11 weeks but she her schedule was packed for 12 weeks).

I'm SO ready for the second trimester. Last time I remember I traded my MS and nausea for headaches. Hoping not to have a repeat of that.

I was able to move tomorrow's appointment to the morning. I hate the nerves that come with waiting...

@motherunner: Ugh at least mine is pretty consistent lately. Sorry you're felling icky. Hopefully we can both get relief soon!

So DH and I spilled the beans to the world last night. This is about when we announced last time. Everyone is so confused wondering when we would have done IVF since we were very open about doing it for our first.

Appointment went well! Measures great and HB was 158 (Of course I’m googling now but I think that’s all myths...)

They keep saying I’m 7 1/2 weeks and I don’t know where they’re getting that from since I’m 8 based on LMP. (They did this last appointment too - said 5 1/2 when I was 6. And they’re saying pre-u/s so not based on anything they’re seeing.) I have to call my OB and go in sometime before 10 weeks now.

    nectarine / 2648 posts

@LindsayInNY: That's strange - are they somehow going off of an ovulation date rather than your LMP? It's pretty standard math to calculate due date off of LMP. How did you measure? 8 vs 7.5?

  7. LindsayInNY

    bananas / 9229 posts

@yellowbeach: Not sure? I happened to go to the RE for IF blood work (planning in advance) right around the day I was set to ovulate. After that, it was "call when you're ready to move forward with IUI." Instead I showed up pregnant. I Oed on CD16 or 17. Even based on O date, I would be 7w5d. So no idea. She didn't say what the measurement was (and my u/s photo doesn't either) just that it was right on track. They never really focused on a EDD either but I know my OB will.

@LindsayInNY: So Neat!! Weird about your dates. hopefully your OB can clarify.

@yellowbeach: Its so fun to announce ans see peoples reactions. I bet many were confused. Such a blessing!!

God I hate my OBs office. They’re over booked. Too many patients and not enough time. They can’t take me until May 15. It was this Tuesday, May 1. Or that. I’m so annoyed. They required scans and doctor visits to be same day but two hours apart so the scan report can be done. It makes no sense and was not like this before. I told her I would do the u/s earlier since that’s all I care about but she couldn’t for some reason. So basically every u/s appointment will be a half day affair. I even told her my uneasiness these upcoming weeks and it made no difference. Now my next visit is NT scan and a regular u/s scan at 10.5 weeks. I didn’t even know a NT could be done then?!

@LindsayInNY: that's so annoying. Are there any other practices you could go to?

@yellowbeach: I love that you announced!! So excited for you.

@mediagirl: I don’t know how to find who else is admitted to my hospital. I tried one practice and they couldn’t take me any sooner. I found another but they were closed so I’m going to call Monday. My husband feels good about this pregnancy but I’m still worried and probably will be for another month. 😐

@LindsayInNY: Wow that is really frustrating! I hope you can find something else that is a good fit, or that your office can settle down and get you on the schedule that's both medically appropriate AND helps make you comfortable considering your history. Also yeah - I did not think an NT scan could be done so early. When the perinatal office called to schedule my NT after a referral from my midwife, they gave me a 5-day window towards the end of my week 12 when they wanted to see me.

Even if the one practice couldn't see you sooner now - do you think they might be a better fit for later throughout your pregnancy? Considering the half-day affair for all US appointments, etc? Though I know it's not so easy to just change practices...

I am going in for an US this morning. It's outside my practice - one of my best friends is in school for ultrasound and she asked if I could help her and come get scanned. Sure thing! haha. Nice to get another bonus in there.

And I forgot to mention, but my due date changed and now we are twins @yellowbeach. I'm technically on the books for 12/2 though I am going into it planning on being 'late' like I was with my first.

I called my regular OB office this morning and was told there was nothing any earlier than May 16 for an initial prenatal appointment. That also included an ultrasound the day before. Both mid-day appointments. I tried another office this morning and have an appointment on Monday 5/7. I really hope it's better...

  15. mediagirl

My notes say I'm 7w5d. Ultrasound says I'm 7w1d. RE was very cautious with comments like "looks good for now..." She wants a repeat ultrasound in a week. Is that normal for specialists?

@yellowbeach: how are you holding up with DH out of town?

  17. LindsayInNY

    bananas / 9229 posts

@mediagirl: I think so. The RE always saw me every 1-2 weeks? I feel like they're always cautious early on. Was this your first scan?

  18. mediagirl

    hostess / wonderful persimmon / 25556 posts

@LindsayInNY: yep, my first one. I thought I'd be done because I thought I was much closer to 8 weeks. My bloat belly sure thinks so, too.

  19. LindsayInNY

    bananas / 9229 posts

@mediagirl: Are you certain of your O date? I think it's harder for them to accurately measure early on.

  20. mediagirl

    hostess / wonderful persimmon / 25556 posts

@LindsayInNY: Well, opk's were positive March 21 - 23. So I guess if I ovulated on the last day, that would make better sense. I was just calculating from LMP.

  21. LindsayInNY

    bananas / 9229 posts

@mediagirl: I'm guessing you're not as far along based on O date?

Suggestions on faking drinking at an open beer/wine event? Is there a way to pretend drink a wine spritzer? What would I add with soda water to make it look white wine colored? I was at a cocktail birthday party recently and told the bartender she hired and was given sparkling cider. Looked NOTHING like an alcoholic drink!! Moron, LOL!

@mediagirl: I agree that maybe you O'd a little later. Did you see/hear a heartbeat? Also was this US done transvaginal or abdominal?

  24. MrsMom

@lindseykaye: That's so neat that your friend is doing that for you! How exciting!

@LindsayInNY: Oh no! I'm not much help, I usually come up with an excuse...something like, I'm on a new med or antibiotic that i can't drink with. or if my husbands drinking, then I just say i'm the DD so he can relax and have a good time.

    Tentatively jumping in...

    Location: Vermont

    EDD: 12/31/18

    First child? Yes

Any symptoms? Super smell, sore boobs, some mild cramping

Who have you told? DH, my best friend, my dad (who then immediately told my older sister), and my boss (because I was initially told based on my levels that it would likely be either a chemical or an ectopic pregnancy and broke down in my office and she noticed and asked and I couldn't lie).

Current thoughts/feelings/fears? So this is a tentative jumping in because I bled almost as much as a normal period at implantation, and at first the level didn't rise the way it was supposed to, but today I got a level that was more than triple what it was 48 hours ago, and while they still want to monitor me closely the nurse who gave me the results told me from here forward if things keep rising it could be a perfectly normal pregnancy. So I'm nervous, obviously, about watching the numbers, I already have one miscarriage in my history, and also worry about a potential ectopic, but other than that just so (cautiously) excited. And looking forward to potentially untelling the few people that I've told about what I had been sure would be a loss.

Also, it's great to see all the beautiful ultrasounds! Congratulations to everyone on here!!!

@LindsayInNY: I had a friend who brought a non-alcoholic beer with her to an event and got there early and gave it to the bartender to poor for her. Not sure that’s an option for you but that is the most convincing fake drinking I’ve seen!

  28. mediagirl

@LindsayInNY: is it just wine and beer or do they have a bar, too? In Las Vegas, I did O'Douls when I wanted a beer. Then I did Sprite with a lime in a high ball so it looked like a drink. Last pregnancy I had a family wedding at 8 weeks. I would go into the bathroom with a beer, dump it out and refill it with water.... I don't really suggest that route but if you're desperate.

@MrsMom: I'm guessing I O'ed later, yeah. We did see a heartbeat but she didn't give us a count. It was transvaginally.

I think we might tell our moms on Mother's Day. I'll have another ultrasound next Friday to make sure all is well and that will make me feel secure enough to spill it to them. Because once my mom knows, forget about it, the world knows.

@LindsayInNY: Ginger ale? It'd be somewhere between light beer and white wine spritzer. Seltzer with lime is a good stand in for gin/vodka and tonic/soda.

  32. LindsayInNY

    bananas / 9229 posts

    @motherunner: This is at a restaurant so I can’t 😐

@mediagirl: It’s open beer and wine and would probably look weird if I order something else. Maybe they’ll have beer bottles where I can do that?

@karenbme: Thought about that and soda water to fake a spritzer? Most people knew I was doing weight watchers so they won’t think much if I only have one drink anyways (because points lol).

  33. karenbme

    persimmon / 1419 posts

@LindsayInNY: You could always just blame weight watchers for not drinking, too. IDK what the points values are, but I'm betting beer/wine are up there.

  34. LindsayInNY

    bananas / 9229 posts

@karenbme: 4 pts a glass! And to be honest, I learned I’d rather eat those points than drink them! Lol

@LindsayInNY: White Cranberry juice mixed with soda water might do the trick. It's got that yellow-y color you're looking for. Or, while the taste might be suspect, mixing ginger ale and soda or ginger ale and sprite might also give you the right color.

@karenbme: Welcome! Glad to have you here

@mediagirl: Telling on Mother's Day will be so special - I hope your next scan is all well and you get some more confident comments from your provider. I get why providers are so cautious with their language, but at the same time if it "looks good for now" then it looks good! And that's something to be happy about

My scan today with my friend was really fun! I got to see a lot more than a typical US because she went through a full OB routine and needed scans and measurements of my uterus, ovaries (saw the corpus leuteum - I ovulated from my left side for this pregnancy!), and the cervix in addition to the actual embryo (is it still an embryo?). She even found what looks to be a uteran fibroid but I was told it was not in a position to complicate things and likely if this scan wasn't so involved for teaching, no one would have seen it or noticed it. I got a few great pics of the little gummybear and she measured the heartbeat at about 180 which is much higher than my last scan but also it was really hard to get the rate and still within 'normal' so all seems well for now.

@LindseyKaye: I first read that and thought you were now having TWINS rather than us being due date twins lol I’ll try to remember to adjust it next time I update.

@MediaGirl: I think I got weekly USs for our first LO who was IVF. I think the REs naturally monitor more. I’ve also noticed they do their own ultrasounds while the OBs seem to have the techs do them. That’s a great looking bean though!

DD and I had bee doing pretty well with DH out of the country in Rwanda but today was hard. We had a 4 hour NICU follow-up where they are now telling us she has speech delays as well as motor delays. The idea of adding on weekly speech therapy on top of biweekly PT is overwhelming. Plus the one Neonatologist even stressed the importance of squeezing this all in now in an intensive manner as once baby #2 comes in Dec, I just naturally won’t be able to interact with DD as much. That really broke my heart. I did write a longer post about it here if anyone has any advice or words of encouragement:

@lindseykaye: That sounds like a lot of fun. Glad everything went well!

@yellowbeach: I'm sorry you had such a long day that ended with lots of questions. I would be upset that the one Dr told you that you wont have much time after you have the next baby. I think as long as you involve her in everything you do with the baby and have her help it could be your own little therapy sessions. I'll be thinking of you

@mediagirl: Jumping from the November board to say that I’ve been measuring consistently 1 week behind based on LMP. It was the same with my first DD. They just said I must O late.
