    @josina: well I FAILED.

@Ajsmommy: Oh no. What were your numbers? I was hoping you would pass and then I'd be a little less nervous for mine!
What next? I am so clueless about what GD even means.

  3. Ajsmommy

    pomegranate / 3355 posts

Well I was very upset when I got the call but thank goodness I was actually on the way to my specialist who is AMAZING!!

My numbers were something like this (from what I can remember!!)
93 fasting (which is high.. not too bad but still kinda high. I think they want it to be 60-90)
    174
    158
    146

He said I failed 3 out of 4 but that I barely failed. He couldn't believe I failed bc baby is measuring normal and I've only gained 6 lbs total.

He really calmed me down and just told me to relax. I have to take a "teaching class" which is an hour. I guess they teach you what to eat/do. he said he'll meet with me one on one and tell me what it indicates for me and what we'll do. Then we go from there. So I dont' know about testing myself or anything yet.

From what little research ive done I'm assuming they'll have me test for a week or two at home (morning, after breakfast, after lunch and after dinner) and see how it looks. if it's ok then I will prob just do that. If it looks bad then I guess it'll be meds/insulin injections (glad I'm a pro at injections--thanks IUI's and infertility!!!)

I still bet you pass yours!

    ETA: I just found this
Abnormal blood values for a 3-hour 100-gram oral glucose tolerance test are:
    β€’Fasting: greater than 95 mg/dL (5.3 mmol/L)
    β€’1 hour: greater than 180 mg/dL (10.0 mmol/L)
    β€’2 hour: greater than 155 mg/dL (8.6 mmol/L)
    β€’3 hour: greater than 140 mg/dL (7.8 mmol/L)

So I'm like right at the cut off for ALL of them!!

@Ajsmommy: Wow, hopefully since your levels are just barely failing, the diet will be enough. And awesome that you were on the way to the specialist so you got answers right away!
I read through some old posts by Mrs Cereal and Mrs Wagon here on GD: http://www.hellobee.com/search/?q=gestational+diabetes
I should stop worrying about it, but doesn't hurt to be prepared.

@Ajsmommy: boo. I was really hoping for better news for you! I bet diet will be enough since you were so close.

Just catching up after a long weekend away for my SIL's wedding. 9 more weeks to go here! This weekend was exhausting but we're done traveling until baby arrives so I'm glad for that.

We think we've landed on a top choice for baby name. Still have a back up but we are pretty set. We also did family/maternity photos this weekend. Love them!

@gilmoregirl: ouch I hope rest helps your pain! No fun.

@Ajsmommy: oh man! I'm sorry. Hopefully since your numbers are on the lower side that you can manage it just with diet. In other news... you've only gained 6 pounds!!?!?! I've gained 30 πŸ˜πŸ˜±πŸ˜”

  8. Pumuckl

    pomegranate / 3601 posts

@Ajsmommy: oh no, hope you'll be fine with just the diet. It really was soooo close

@gentlelunette: I'm in the 30lbs weight gain range too. But usually I don't gain much in the last couple of weeks so we'll see what my total will be this time. With my singletons I only gained 20-22lbs overall so this is very new territory for me.

So jealous of all you guys that have decided on a name. We're talking about it but are still rather stumped πŸ€”.

Thanks guys.... Feeling really down today.....

  10. Pumuckl

    pomegranate / 3601 posts

@Ajsmommy: oh no, don't let this take you down! It'll only be 2-3 months and it's over. I know sticking to a strict diet is not funny (I know since I have celiac disease) but if it helps you and the baby feel better it'll totally be worth it.

  11. Ajsmommy

    pomegranate / 3355 posts

@Pumuckl: thanks. I'm trying to stay positive but I'm just sad. I don't want to have to deal with this. And now I'm worried That I'll be diabetic forever, which I know is only a slight possibility but I'm just so bad with these kind of things. I'm just having a pitty party and an everything is unfair kind of day....

  12. josina

    pomegranate / 3973 posts

@Ajsmommy: When do you meet with the nutritionist to start the diet / testing?

  13. gilmoregirl

    persimmon / 1273 posts

@gentlelunette: I'm also up at least 30 pounds...I gained close to 50 with my first so I think it's just what my body does....but it doesn't make it easier to see the numbers every month.

@Pumuckl: We're still having a hard time with a name too...I feel like we have a couple on the list but I'm having a hard time really picturing any of them on this baby. I wish something would stick!

@josina: good luck with your test! hope everything turns out ok.

@Ajsmommy: I'm sorry this is what you're dealing with, especially since you were so close to passing. Your doctor sounds helpful; I hope it's easy to control your numbers at least. Are you feeling any better after a couple more days to process?

  14. gilmoregirl

AFM, I am home sick today because I have been struggling with exhaustion and cold symptoms and finally hit a breaking point. I think I probably could have pushed through today, but I was going to snap at some point, so maybe it's best to get some rest now.

This is getting really tough at the end! We're not ready for baby yet, but I'm definitely looking forward to February.

I think in the last day or two the baby has dropped a bit lower (midwife commented on how high he was at the same appointment where she found the diastasis). It's more uncomfortable, but it seems to have helped relieve the pain somewhat, so I'm really grateful for that. It was getting unmanageable. I'm still avoiding carrying just about everything which makes laundry an adventure in our split level house. My poor husband is a champ about picking up all of my slack.

    pear / 1881 posts

@Ajsmommy: ugh - I'm so sorry that you failed the test I hope that it is something that can be easily managed considering you were SO close to the cutoff!

@Pumuckl: We don't have set names either. We have a few options for a girl and a few for boy. Dh wants to name the boy after our friend that passed away a few years ago, but I'm not super keen on the name. I'm completely fine with it as a middle name, but would rather give the baby it's "own" name once it is born (if it is a boy).

Had my 30 week appt yesterday and I'm up about 18-20 lbs, so not too bad. We talked a bit about VBAC and Csection. I can't make up my mind and am actually leaning towards a repeat Csection (DD was 2 days of induced labor, failure to progress and a Csection). With a section, I can better plan childcare since we have no immediate family in town.

    pear / 1881 posts

@gilmoregirl: Oh no! Sick while pregnant is the worst! I felt like I was hit by a truck on Tuesday evening, but yesterday was much better (albeit congested). How many weeks are you now? I don't even know what is "normal" for baby to drop. and I hear you regarding the pain. Mine is worse in my ribs and by the afternoon I just want to take off my bra at work to relieve some pressure

  17. gilmoregirl

    persimmon / 1273 posts

@NorthStar: I'm 31 weeks, but I don't think baby "dropped" so much as moved a little lower? He was wayyyyyy up in my ribs, not in my pelvis at all. The bra situation is no good here either...really ought to buy some new ones.

And I hear you on childcare...we're two hours from family and not sure what to do when I go into labor. My parents can and will come out but it will take several hours for them to arrive, so I think we need a bunch of backup plans...but it's stressful.

  18. NorthStar

    pear / 1881 posts

@gilmoregirl: I bought a bra extender at a craft/fabric store, so that has helped a TON! That way, I don't have to buy a new bra and can just make mine bigger. Like these:

    https://www.amazon.com/Best-Sellers-Clothing-Bra-Extenders/zgbs/apparel/2364773011

Our in laws will be in Florida on their winter break when the baby comes, so they can't help (they would be our ideal). My parents live 3 hours away and are not good about following our guidance, so we don't really have any desire to have them come watch DD. DH's cousin lives in town and her kids go to same daycare/school (and she has a minivan), so I'm going to likely ask her if she can help for at least a day or two. We will figure something out.

  19. gilmoregirl

    persimmon / 1273 posts

@NorthStar: oh good idea with the extenders! I'm going to try that.

My in-laws are both retired but each have significant health issues and we just can't rely on them here. It would be too much for them, I think. My parents will come out but they both work and the two-hour drive will be a thing...especially if there is bad weather! So we need a local plan too. We have a couple of people we can rely on, and I don't think I'll have my husband stay at the hospital all the time like I did with my first, so he'll be able to do some care too. But it feels like there are so many variables! I should probably chill out about it haha.

  20. josina

    pomegranate / 3973 posts

@gilmoregirl: Thanks, fingers crossed for tomorrow! My test is right at 8 am.
Sorry you have a cold/are sick, no fun when you can't take meds for it.

We are extremely lucky in that my step-daughter (13) can watch DS for us in a pinch, and my in-laws are right next door if she needs anything. If it's a weekday I'll just have my MIL take him to daycare for us (or watch him herself). Our biggest issue is that DS still comes to our bed every night so it will be a shock if we're not there.

@josina: good luck today! I am so hopeful that you'll pass!! I take my learning class next weds with the specialist. ironically it's "dessert day "here and my office that day.. but guess I won't be partaking. I am still so unhappy about this situation. However, I'm really mostly just annoyed that I failed by such close numbers! (I posted on fb that I found out I only failed one of the draws by ONE point! come on.. if they give me that one then I pass.... ) and I failed the other one by like 3 points.. just ridiculous in my mind.

@gilmoregirl: lol, no I am still bitter. LOL. I had my reg ob on tues and I found out my failing numbers and i was like that's ridiculous and dr was like "i know, but a fail is a fail" and i was not happy... she laughed and called me spunky (i think she probably meant bitchy ) She asked me if i had changed my diet and i was like "um no" If anything i am eating more sugar now in anticipation of them cutting me off --- i know i am terrible.

@NorthStar: thanks, i am hoping i can just watch what i eat and manage it that way but i am soo not happy about pricking my finger multiple times a day my friend failed her test bigtime.. with like #'s in the 200's and she was ok with just managing her diet. honestly, i think having my numbers be soo close to passing is making the whole thing worse... have you started to plan for childcare yet?

Not sure what we'll do. Dh's parents are nearby so i guess they'll come be with DD, my mom plans to fly in from FL so she won't be here immediately. I am assuming i'll be induced again. That gave me 3 days w DD. I went in weds and didn't have her til Fri night.. I am going to hate being away from home/DD for that long if it happens the same this time around. So i guess we'll just be fudging it until my mom arrives and then she'll take over since she's staying at our house she can just be in charge of DD (YIKES)

  22. gilmoregirl

    persimmon / 1273 posts

@Ajsmommy: ah, I don't blame you. Bitter sounds perfectly reasonable to me.

I think we have a partial solution to our childcare situation. My husband talked to a friend who is also his coworker and she is happy to be on call for any middle of the night stuff. So there's that!

  23. josina

    pomegranate / 3973 posts

Well, I passed! All four tests so I'm good to go. Longest 12 hours of my life, the no-water was the worst. If anyone hasn't taken the first one yet. DONT drink caffeine right before the test.
@Ajsmommy: You have every right to be bitter. Sorry you have to do this over the holidays

  24. MrsA

    apricot / 444 posts

@Ajsmommy: heck yeah, I'd be bitter and "spunky" too!

We are working on childcare plans. I think if middle of the night, we'll call one of two neighborhood friends to come immediately, then my sister will come (she's about 30 min away). I also think my in-laws will drive up the same day, so between my sister and them I think DD will be taken care of. I'm hopeful it's during the week and they can take her to daycare as usual. So many more logistics this time around!

  25. gilmoregirl

    persimmon / 1273 posts

@josina: congrats on passing! I cannot even imagine going so long without any water....Let alone having four blood draws in there. I'd have passed out for sure, but I'm a blood draw fainter already.

@MrsA: this is what I do...we can generally rely on my parents but I don't know how long it will take them to get here. Plus they both work. So I keep running through all the possible scenarios and there are about a million.

  26. Pumuckl

    pomegranate / 3601 posts

@josina: yay on the passed test!

@Ajsmommy: hugs πŸ€— hope you will be okay with just diet. And totally understand the binge eating of sugar.

We are lucky that my ILs live in the same town as us and while they cannot help with childcare on the regular it'll be fine for the 1.5-2h that it takes my mom to get here. Both my other labours started early morning so I am somehow anticipating something similar to happen this time (if I am even allowed to have a vaginal birth).

  27. MrsA

    apricot / 444 posts

@gilmoregirl: I'm calling it Plan A through Whatever Really I'm just going to have to make sure everyone has everyone else's contact info and hope that DH organizes it at the time however it works best. If I try to write it out it'll become one of those choose your adventure kind of things

  28. gilmoregirl

    persimmon / 1273 posts

@MrsA: haha, yes, choose your own adventure is exactly right. I think my husband will be able to handle it so I'll just have to stop worrying.

  40. gentlelunette

    kiwi / 698 posts

@gilmoregirl: I don't have a complete list yet... but so far my list includes:

    -Pre-register at the hospital
    -cook meals and freeze
    -stock pantry with staples
    -deep clean fridge and oven
-clean car and install car seat base
-finish nursery (hang wall decals, launder crib sheets)
-re-upholster rocking chair (this is a pipe dream!)
-sort, launder and put baby clothes away

I have a feeling the list is going to be very long. I am off for 6 weeks before baby comes due to some serious hip and back pain making it hard to do my job. I'll have lots of time to get things done!
