@starlitsky: Thanks! Good to know you started feeling movement soon close to where I'm at. YAY
Good luck on the house hunt!! It can be fun and stressful at the same time!
I can't imagine spending 2 years on a wait list for daycare - wow!

@MrsChampagne: Congrats on your girl! I saw your updated thread asking for guesses from a few weeks ago - I think my baby's NT scan picture has a skull like your DS, so now I'm changing my guess for my own to boy!

@starlitsky: Good luck on the house hunt! I know how stressful it can be - we moved six hours away when I was 34 weeks pregnant with my first. We were only renting as well as we were still in the phase of moving every year for DH's work, so we just made sure we had the essentials we'd need for the baby's arrival (car seat, cot, pump etc) and bought everything else after we got settled into our new place. Hope you find a place soon!

We celebrated DD2's second birthday today - it's crazy how fast these early years fly by. I'm glad we decided to have a third as I think I would have always felt something was missing if we stopped at two, but celebrating milestones and birthdays always makes me so emotional! I've been ridiculously emotional this pregnancy anyway, but today was a bit over the top!

Only three more days until my scan! I'm pretty sure I've been feeling a bit of movement lately but it will be nice to see the little one on screen, probably for the last time this pregnancy unless complications arise. I've definitely got a bump now, which is such as a change as I was closer to 26-28 weeks before I had any kind of bump with LO1 and about 24 weeks with LO2. This time, at 20 weeks, I am definitely sporting a bump!

    Hope everyone is doing well!

No real updates. I've started having heartburn like crazzyyyy. and I hit 10 pounds gained. Blah! Trying to keep it at 20 total.

@Purpledaisy: Why only 20? I thought the recommendation was 25-35. 10 is pretty awesome for right now, you're doing great.

@pastemoo: My OB recommended 20-25. My OB last time said 15-20 (Both starting at an average weight and different OBs each time)... I gained 20 last time so I feel that 20 is doable and less weight to lose after

Now I am curious what everyone else's doctors recommended as far as weight gain? I do feel that both of the OBs that I have had are on the more strict side when it comes to weight.

  11. MrsKRB

    nectarine / 2465 posts

@Purpledaisy: my doctor said under 30 and I was normal body weight before getting pregnant. I thought he was being a little strict, and as long as I don't gain 50 lbs I'm happy. If I gain a pound a week from here on out, I'm on track for about 32 lbs.

  12. Alba4

    nectarine / 2951 posts

@Purpledaisy: my doctor didn't mention anything about how much weight I should gain. They just mentioned that I was on track (I've gained 7 lbs so far).

I wouldn't worry. I gained @ 30 with #1. I think as long as you don't go crazy eating unhealthy foods, you'll be fine.

@Purpledaisy: My doctor didn't mention anything about how much I should or shouldn't gain. I have gained 7 pounds so far and if I gain 1 pound per week from here on out I will be around the 25 pound weight gain mark.

We had a fetal echocardiogram this morning (because of ivf), everything looks perfect and she's measuring the 46%. Everything has been going so well so far that I feel like something bad is going to happen!

@Purpledaisy: @MrsKRB: That is amazing to me!
I gained 50 lbs last time, and lost 20 in pee and sweat alone in the first two weeks, I swear. If I only gained 20, I'd end up pretty sick, I think. But it is amazing how different every body is--and every pregnancy! Definitely no where near on track to gain 50 again even though I am certain I am eating more than last time and exercising similarly or less.
    Weird.
@MrsKRB: Don't worry mama! Exciting to see baby's little heart's workings.

ETA I did lose the whole 50 in less than the 9 months my mom told me to give myself. So I'm less worried about it this time.

@pastemoo: yea I gained 52lbs last time, and was still hanging on to 5lbs at DS's first birthday. I really don't want to repeat that, but looking back at my weight notes, I gained 10lbs in the last 2.5 weeks alone! So at least part of that was water weight - not that I couldn't have eaten better!

I'm exercising more this time around, but still gaining at about the same rate

  17. MrsKRB

    nectarine / 2465 posts

@pastemoo: it's crazy! I feel like you should be told to eat healthy and exercise, not have to stick to certain poundage. Every gains what they need to and I think it stresses a lot of women out.

@MrsKRB: Awe I'm sure everything is fine!

My doc office has said from the beginning that they don't count pounds or give you a ideal amount of weight to gain because every pregnancy is different and that they'll let you know if you are gaining to much weight or not enough. I'm not sure if they tell that to everyone or just their plus sized gals. But I made a weight joke while I was there recently and they restated their philosophy to me.

    coconut / 8483 posts

@Mrs. Pink: hey... I think you're dealing with the same thing- my doc just called and said the cord only has 2 vessels instead of 3. I'm kind of freaking out. What have you learned so far before I dive into googling? Thanks

  20. Purpledaisy

    nectarine / 2973 posts

Ok, I totally want all of your OBs. I don't know why mine are so low on their recommendations. I definitely am not stressing about it like I did last time but I am still trying to stay within the 20-25... I am also super sensitive about my weight and mainly just don't want it to become a "problem" because I don't want to have to talk about it.

@MrsKRB: "I feel like you should be told to eat healthy and exercise, not have to stick to certain poundage. Every gains what they need to and I think it stresses a lot of women out."

Totally agree with this. I know too many women that end up feeling stressed out about appointments because of weigh ins . I think that being healthy is more important than sticking to a specific number.

Also, @MrsKRB: , so glad that everything is looking good!

@Mrs. Champagne: I know nothing about this but I hope that everything is ok.

@Mrs. Champagne: usually totally benign, just go in for more imaging to monitor. Don't google, the scary stuff is not what will happen to you.

  22. Mrs. Champagne

    coconut / 8483 posts

@pastemoo: ugh. Thanks for replying!. Too late for googling... But my doc (just a family doc not an OB) said that everything with heart and kidneys looked perfect. Baby is in the 55th percentile so right on track. And my NT scan showed a 1/13000 risk for DS. So I'm trying to remain calm. She said I will get referred to a genetic counsellor. And they might do a blood test but based on most things I've read if I only have the one marker, that might not be needed? Ugh hopefully they call soon.
I haven't even told DH yet because he's working. I need him to calm me down.

@Purpledaisy: I'm sorry. My practice the first time around was so mean about my weight. This time they haven't said anything (different state, different health system, different providers).

  24. MMcAlli

    cherry / 154 posts

@Purpledaisy: I totally get the worry & like you I don't want it to be a problem because I wouldn't want to talk about it. I know you're suppose to gain weight in pregnancy, but it isn't easy seeing that number on the scale go up. Since pregnancy really isn't agreeing with me my goal is to just be healthy on days I feel good and just exercise when I feel up to it. Then once this Little Guy gets here worry about whatever weight I gained.

@Mrs. Champagne: I'm not sure what this is but hoping everything is ok! Try not to worry yourself too much till you see that genetic specialist.

Anxious for my doctor's appointment this Thursday & having that test ran for Preterm Labor risk. I'm still having Braxton hicks, I also am having lots of runny discharge (tmi sorry) I of course thought it was normal until I mentioned it to my sister-n-law who told me discharge was normal but she never had runny discharge in any of her pregnancies. Are any of you experiencing this? I'm trying not to google just for my sanity.

Also a new pregnancy symptom, nose bleeds. I swear if someone was to look in my purse they wouldn't know what to think. I have vomit bags, packs on packs of gum, snacks & now lots of tissues for my random nose bleeds.

I am a little scared as to what my third trimester is going to bring. Because one was awful & two isn't all rainbows & unicorns like explained in the books.

Ok I'm done. How are you ladies feeling? Better? Worse? Same boat as me?

@MMcAlli: I'm sorry you are feeling anxious. I too have days filled with worry and other days of calm. I am worried about the 3rd trimester too, but taking one day at a time. I've been trying to meditate and calm my mind with positive thoughts!!

My first pregnancy was sooo easy and worry free. I hope most of you ladies are feeling great and positive!!!

@Purpledaisy: Ugh, I think weight gain should be an off limits topic during pregnancy unless there are serious concerns. I've never been weighed during any of my pregnancies except for at the initial visit to get a baseline BMI, and I also haven't been told a recommended range to gain. I said a while ago in this thread that I think most women are predisposed to gaining a certain amount, regardless of how they eat, within reason of course. I gained 32 lbs with both of my girls and am up anywhere from 4-8 kg (8.8 lbs - 17.6 lbs) right now, depending on the mood of my scale

@Mrs. Champagne: One of my best friends had the two vessel cord and whilst her little boy did have some heart issues, they were picked up by this point in the pregnancy. He had surgery at 8 weeks old and is absolutely perfect now at nearly 4 yrs old. You said your LO's heart looks perfect anyway, so not likely to be an issue for you - I know it's still scary but I'm sure everything is fine!

@MMcAlli: I hope your test goes well on Thursday! FWIW, I've been like a leaky tap since about 16 weeks and it fluctuates between being watery and being what looks like part of the mucus plug (it could be - it does regenerate itself if parts come out early, sorry for the tmi). I hope you get some reassurance though and start having an easier time of it as your pregnancy has sounded pretty tough

I saw my midwife yesterday, for the first time since my booking in appt at 10 weeks! I got to hear our LO's heartbeat and suffice to say, it was not a fan of the Doppler as I got the strongest kicks I've felt yet when it was trying to kick it away! Heart rate measured 138 bpm, which is lower than I had with my girls (consistently in the mid to upper 140s), so I'm feeling even more convinced it's a boy.

I have my anatomy scan in two hours and I can't wait!!! DH won't be able to attend so it will be just me on my own, which is a bit of a bummer, but I can't wait to see this little one. Still committed to being TG but I can't deny I will be looking for any signs or hints that predict gender one way or the other :-). Without confirming it though, there's really no point in guessing but hey, all part of the fun!

@MMcAlli: I'm sorry I hope you can get some reassurance on Thursday. I've been having discharge, but it's not funny (I don't think). The second trimester has definitely itself been harder than I expected, everyone always talks about how great it is, but maybe since the first tri wasn't bad for me I don't have anything to compare it to.

pregnancy is so bizarre. @Ree723: have fun at the scan and good luck!
i have my perinatology appt today. "yay" it feels like such a waste of time to talk about my risks. i don't have it yet, i might have it later, the percentages are about populations not about me, so how does this appointment help me at all?

@Ree723: Hope your ultrasound went good & can't wait to hear if you saw anything leaning you to one gender over the other. :))

@pastemoo: I hope your appointment goes good. I guess it's better to be prepared, even though I would imagine talking about possible risks is scary in itself.

I agree, pregnancy is so bizarre. I don't know what's normal & what isn't. Thanks ladies for kind words & letting me know I'm not alone in having some of these "symptoms".

Thanks for all the well wishes - we had our scan today and everything looks perfect! I tried really hard to see if I could see anything but still have no idea what we're having! I told the tech that we didn't want to know but I wasn't going to turn away from the screen, I just didn't want any confirmation from her about what I was seeing. When she was looking around down there, I was sure I caught a glimpse of boy parts, but then a second later, I was sure I saw the three distinct white lines suggesting girl! This happened about four more times, so really, I have absolutely no idea what we're having! And to top it off, I think the baby's skull looked rounder today than it did at the NT scan, which would suggest another girl! Sigh, only 20 more weeks or so of anticipating and wondering

Anyway, it was really exciting and so much fun to see our little one in there, just ticking merrily along. It seems very similar to DD1 - very chilled out with its hands behind its head whilst stretching out the entire time, so I hope that means it has a personality similar to DD1 as she is the calmest, happiest, easiest little person, and has been since the very beginning! DD2 is lovely as well but she's our feisty, 'spirited' one and I think the quota on spirited children is one per family

Anyway, hope everyone else is doing well!

@MMcAlli: I've been getting nose bleeds lately too! For a while I have some bright red "bloody" boogers when I blow my nose in the morning. But never actually bled. Then this past weekend I had two legit nose bleeds out of nowhere! Lovely!

@Ree723: That's a really cool fact about the mucus plug regenerating - I was wondering what would happen if a little got knocked out by accident. Fascinating! Also SOO funny about the doppler!!!

Going for my ultrasound tomorrow - so so so so so excited! Also - I think I officially am feeling movement. I had some noticeable kick like feelings starting Monday night. It is so amazing and fascinating!! They are more frequent when I am sitting down in the evening than during the day when I am up walking around.

@mmcalli: Try not to worry too much about the discharge, I think it varies massively depending on loads of factors, incl. how much/what you had to drink/eat etc. You know the usual answers (but they are true) - every pregnancy is so different, etc etc. Hope the other symptoms aren't too bothersome for you! Headaches are my theme of the month. Sounds like you're having a rough ride. I can sympathise with the vomit bags, lol, mine has returned this week. Oh well...

@meadow: hope you have a good scan!!

We had our anatomy scan this week and are having a..... little BOY! Hubby is so ridiculously excited, it's very sweet. I was so stressed about all the checks etc beforehand and so relieved all was absolutely fine I just cried most of the way home (hormones... Haha).

Baby was rather uncooperative, but we had very patient Sonographer... Was starting to feel like I was attempting yoga on the table though - lie on your back, left, right, back, cough... finally had to go empty bladder, just to try to get the baby to move into the right positions for her to complete the last checks. Our pics are hopeless and the min we wanted to check gender at the end he immediately crossed his legs!!! It was so lovely to see baby again though. She showed us baby as a whole before she started checks and I was pretty sure I glimpsed gender at that point (I did).

My placenta is at the front right, so only feeling kicks on my left side, which means it's a little tricky to track 'regularity' as it depends on his position. If concerned, was told to take a sudden deep intake of breath (oxgen boost for baby) or drink a glass of cold water - seems to work most of the time! However, he's rather fond of kicking/punching my cervix and what I think is my left ovary (ouch!).

@purpledaisy: I'm super sensitive about my weight too, but it hasn't been mentioned at all (other than the check at booking apmnt - end of the day right after meal out, with a full bladder - not great planning!). Scales seem to be creeping up by 1/4 pound every 2-3 days without any real change in diet (hard to watch, but know it's for a good cause). I'm monitoring it by checking the same clothes still fit, so know it's mostly going on belly/boobs (though apparently bum too! ) Only time size has been mentioned (by me actually) was at my OB apmnt when I was anxious to know whether any birth options were ruled out (I'm a planner...). I felt totally mortified but OB and the midwife just laughed and said I was fine and if anyone thought waterbirth was an issue, I could just demonstrate my ease of getting out due to being so tall (not really thought of myself that way before - am 5'10).

@Alba4: Definitely feeling positive over here!

P.S. Does anyone have any good recommendations for sources to help with names?? We'd agreed on a girl name (now not needed, lol), but are totally stuck for a boy! Everywhere I've looked online so far has been totally uninspiring.
