If your HCG level is a 5.9 and you are past when you AF is due, that very much sounds like it is dropping and you are miscarrying. I'm very sorry. I don't see how you could be viably pregnant with an HCG that low. Have you taken another pregnancy test?

I've had a chemical pregnancy and a miscarriage. With my chemical, I got a positive test on the day that my period was due. I went in for a blood test and they said my hcg was 20. They said that was very low and they didn't have high hopes but I should have it retested in 2 days to see if it doubled. When I went back 2 days later, they said it was 23, and it wasn't viable. 4 days later, I started bleeding and my level dropped to 4.9 and then to 0 two days later.

I've unfortunately had a good amount of experience with this. With my 2 chemical pregnancies, I tested at about 5 weeks and got a BFP. Either a day or two later, I got some period-like cramps with 2 or 3 days of heavy bleeding. In both cases, my HCG levels were below 15 and didn't double.

With my other two miscarriages, I had light brown spotting from the start. I needed a D&C for both of them.

I'm really sorry for the crap news, but hoping that your little bean makes it through.

I am so sorry you are dealing with this, I didn't have betas drawn but W my chemical I had four days of positive tests then started bleeding. The period was heavier for one day then spotting for a couple more. Def different than my normal period.

@eecuadrado: i had a negative test in the morning and started bleeding in the afternoon, same day. I was able to get pregnant two months after the chemical. Good luck to you, hugs!

I had a chemical pregnancy last month. I had a week or so of very light tests, although they did gradually get a bit darker. A little over 5 weeks I started spotting. I took a test in the morning and it was negative and I started heavily bleeding that day. My blood results came back at 4.5 hcg and then a few days later they were down to less than 1. I'm sorry you are going through this!

@eecuadrado: I had low betas with my first pregnancy. I still had a 2nd line on the test until I miscarried at 7.5 weeks (actually until a week or two after that), but I knew early on that my betas were rising but not doubling. I think if your test is negative, that will likely tell you what is going on, but if it's still positive, you're just going to have to wait and see what your labs say.

I am very sorry that you are going through this. With a beta of 5.9 after AF is due, I really think this is going to be an early miscarriage/CP. I hope I am wrong, but do what you can to prepare yourself.

@eecuadrado: I'm really sorry Mine were really really hard for me. I was also clinging to hope that mine would be different. But even with a late implanter, 5.9 is just not where it should be. Below 5 is not pregnant. Once implantation occurs, it multiplies very very quickly and 5 would be a very early number, immediately following implantation. FWIW, I know so many people, myself included, that got pregnant with healthy babies immediately following chemicals. I had 2 chemicals in a row, got pregnant a 3rd month, and carried my DD1 to term.

@eecuadrado: same with my first. we got pregnant on the first try and found out right away, and had no complications the entire time.

I am also really sorry you are going through this. I had a miscarriage at 10w and a chemical pregnancy. With the chemical, I didn't get betas done, but was testing positive. What tipped me off was when I went to take a digital at 5w, it read not pregnant, when I was seeing a line on a FRER. I ended up bleeding a couple days later.

With that said, I am currently 21w pregnant and this pregnancy started out with really low beta levels. My starting level was 15 at 12dpo.
