She frequently cries even when she was the one to initiate the transition. For example, she will ask to go to bed, and then she starts crying. She cries through kisses good night,which she is in control of (she toddles over to her dada, crying, and kisses him), and cries through diaper change, but she is fine one she I put her in her crib.
Or, when we leave the house every morning she starts crying about 5 minutes before, cries out to the car, but is ok once she is in her seat.
Ideas?

Does she have a lovey or other "transition item" of some sort? I know not everyone wants to give one to their kids, but I think it worked really well for our son, especially around that age.

re: the lovey, I am ok with her having one and have introduced (before this) taggies, blankets, stuff animals and a little bag she liked but she never does the 'lovey' thing with them. I wanted her to have one for daycare to help when she first started but she never seemed to care. -
@lizzywiz: Honestly, it wasn't the normal for my son. But I found that a lovey helped with changes, even small every day things like driving in the car or having to take a nap or sitting in the stroller for extended periods of time. FWIW, we tried introducing various lovies at different ages, but he never really got into them until about 18 months.

I don't know if it's normal or not, but my son had moments where he starts crying even though it is something he wanted to do or asked to do. I pacify myself by telling myself that crying is a stress reliever for kids.

My 2.5 yr old DD is a crier, just like her momma - haha
Now she will just come up to me and say "I'm crying" and I just give her a hug and say "its ok to cry". She cries sometimes at bedtime too and when I go in she says the same thing "I'm crying". I say "you are? How come?" and she just smiles at me.
So no real answer but I am in the same boat!

What about getting a book that teaches kids how to express their emotions?

@lizzywiz: I have this book I got from scholastic. It's called "Get Happy". It talks about sharing, snuggling, etc. My almost 19 month old loves it and I think it's neat just to talk about the concept of being happy.
