I am making a carrot cake or maybe banana bread type cake for my LO's first birthday. I cant decide what shape though. Should I use a number 1 shaped cake tin? or an oversized cup cake shape? any other ideas?

Cupcake! You will be able to tell it is a cupcake from all directions in pictures.

I vote for either a giant cupcake or a small (like, 4-5"), round layer cake.

I made Rose Levy Beranbaum's banana cake with dreamy creamy white frosting (you use white chocolate instead of powdered sugar, so you get a nice subtle cream cheese frosting that isn't too sweet). It stays incredibly moist in the fridge overnight. I can send you the recipe if you're interested! It's in my cookbook so i'll have to check it when i'm home.
I went for a 2 layer round cake, with a cupcake on top.

I love the oversized cupcake idea! We did a small 6" round layer but I think even a smaller one would've worked great & mini layer cakes are uber cute too!

Another vote for a cupcake shape! I just think they're suuuper cute though, so I probably would have voted for that over anything else

I have that pan! Love it! Make sure you do a test run first though, because the bake times could be longer...quite a bit longer.

@looch: Thanks I didnt do a test run but I will bake the two pieces separately since I read from the reviews that the "top" of the cake bakes faster than the bottom
@swurlygurl: I know they have some great photos up there! I will definitely share mine when its done
